The ball went backwards not forwards. I thought you can’t be offside if the ball is played backwards. - like you can’t be offside when a corner is taken.

Is my understanding wrong? Laws could have changed and I’m not aware.
You can be offside even if the ball is played backwards, if you were in an offside position when the ball was played. It’s a moot point though as the corner taker wasn’t in an offside position anyway.

Couldn’t make it up could you. They can get you every angle of every goal they score or when shipman does his cringy look at me arm waving to the scruffs when they win, but can’t get a camera to see whether a wolves player was onside which would result in the holders going out at home in the third round ? corruption in full swing
Total joke

but then when the defender clears it from in the box, that is apparently a new phase of play, hence why Salah was onside despite being offside
That's the rule, however it's farcical. Unless the defender is 100% sure that Salah was offside, which he can't, he has to be expected to play the ball.

How can be expected to do that, and then penalised for attempting to defend? If Salah hadn't made the run behind, Tito wouldn't have to play the fluffin' ball.

I get that, but in the wolves disallowed goal, there may have been an offside earlier in the build up (like Salah) but a RS defender deliberately clears it shortly before wolves got it in the net so play was 're-set' for the RS goal but not for the Wolves one. It's shameless match fixing in front of our very eyes.
I am going IPTV to make sure I pay no more money into this fraud

Nothing to see here mate, it's been going on for very long time.
Clive Thomas, Maine Road semi anyone.

I think they’ve actually fooked VAR tonight, I don’t think they can justify that call from the evidence - there’s just no way they couldn’t see nunes was onside, and the absolute clap trap about not having a definitive camera angle has been put to bed already - it’s despicable.

Just watching that again in slow motion

When he takes the corner, the first moment it hits someone (can't tell if it's a rs or a Wolves player) Nunes is in an offside position. But that header is then headed on further by Chan and by this point he's not offside.

So in that first phase of play when the initial contact is made in the box, is he offside?

Then when the 2nd phase of play happens and they try and play the ball across to Toti the first time, he's in an offside position. It gets blocked then drilled towards goal again where he scores and he's not offside. So again, can the linesman flag for offside for that phase of play?

Lastly and I think you mentioned it, the linesman doesn't raise his flag until the referee seems to gesture to him to raise his flag. Hiw can the referee make that referral fro where he is?
