Because in this instance he shouldn’t be sent to the monitor for a few minutes to work out a simple decision. Yes the ref is crap and it’s unacceptable he didn’t spot it in real time but he shouldn’t have to go to monitor to redeem his sin. A quick that’s a pen in his ear piece would have sufficed.

He barely touched him and Delap collapsed because he’d lost the ball. It’s also the fact that the ref didn’t give the one for Fulham that was as clear cut as they come until var intervened. Had he not given that for Ipswich, var wouldn’t have changed it.
