Have to laugh at City though. All that money spent & the managers don't seem to realise that you need an English core to make a team (albeit Chelsea are doing rather better without an English midfield/attack although Costa is almost a throwback to the 70s striker).

Didn't get to see the game but Pellegrini is clearly a dead man walking. What's Jurgen Klopp's situation, surely the outstanding candidate now that Simeone has committed to Atletico?

Pardew couldn't handle the situation at a club looking to win things. Imagine that freak under the microscope 24/7 and having to deal with superstar players.

There'd be carnage. He'd be in and out in 4 months max.

He'll be on his arse by Christmas next season. He doesn't have the patience and concentration levels to sustain a club over the medium to long term.

Dave, I really don't think anyone was seriously entertaining the idea that Pardew could go to City.

No, I know. But he's flavour of the day it seems.

I think he's one of those managers that goes in and gets a team a big lift initially and then his style eventually rubs up players and fans the wrong way. People can forgive arrogance from a genius; they cant bear it from a mediocrity.

It has turned around for Pardew, because I think we all like Palace and hate Newcastle. It will fade as soon as he has his inevitable next episode of course, but I always had a bit of a soft spot for him. Did a good job at the Geordies, like.

On another note, I liked the way he dropped Newcastle like a hot soup instead of the other way around, and the grass didn't turn out to be greener. There's a lesson in there to be learned about loyalty to one's manager.

No matter how much I despise the obnoxious idiot, Pardew's performance and influence this season cannot be easily disregarded.

As Tony Bellow mentioned on Twitter yesterday evening, his management has arguably kept both Newcastle and Palace up this season.

To be fair, I do not think he's a particularly bad manager in a tactical sense, it's just his repulsive attitude that makes many people deplore him.

His relationship with the Geordies is hard to analyse, as they are themselves an egoistic and deluded lot in the mainstay.

If things turn sour at Palace, where he's relatively liked, then I think that will be more telling about his persona than the Toons hating him.

pellegrini will get rightly sacked end of the season, surely? he fluked the league last season, they really should have run away with it given the standard of the opposition.

they didn't stand much of a chance this season imo because chelsea did brilliant business, but there's no way they should be scrapping with united for 4th.

He is currently working with a sports psychologist to keep his general blertishness under control. He has always been a bit chippy. even after the semi against RS in 89 when he got the winner he was going round saying "I'm the best £5000 that this club has ever spent." Well the bogs at the top of the Holmesdale didn't have a roof so it's not like we threw our dough around in those days.
I don't mind him now he is with us and he does seem a bit more relaxed. It will go wrong eventually though. Pardew AND Palace. Two candidates for catastrophe separately let alone together.
Meanwhile? Who cares?

it's hard to work out if palace have a good team or had two great managers haha they looked hopeless and relegation fodder under holloway and warnock (granted they are both lower league managers) but you wouldn't say they have any players that scream quality - no offence alan.
