Guardiola won't achieve what he wants to unless he drops the pure possession football that's been outdated for years. It's so 2013. Last year was the counter attack fad. This year it's the high press. Best way to counter it is to mix it up now and again and go direct. Problem is they don't have the players for it.

In Spain and Germany he had a higher calibre of players available to him and both leagues are played at a slower pace. La Liga certainly more so.

Bravo gets closed down far to often for him to be comfortable and his defence look shaky for them to be comfortable, so he'll have to adapt.

While I still believe he will ultimately do well here in the long run, I doubt he's enjoying the steep learning curve that's the Premier League.

Bravo got closed down plenty here too and had less problems with it. The problem is getting the vsrious players used to each other and moving together so that even if Bravo passes to a man who has a player on him that player can recieve it confortably as he has two or three options around who are moving and making themselves available.

It will come.

....hopefully in enough time to make sure them lot have no hope of winning it

Southampton sat back happily for most of that half without pressing much however on a select few occasions they decided it was time to press. Their goal came from one of these moments of pressing.

It's a really interesting way to test City without having to put in the type of effort we did for 95mins. Select the right moments. Really impressive game from Southampton Puel seems like a good coach.

Spot on. People make a lot out of the pressing style. But it's not about needlessly chasing every ball. If they have a lot of players back what's the point? All about using energy at the right time.

They were probably told to press when Stones has the ball.
