So football is over for another week now then?

Reading this morning southgate to be given the job full time as well. Kills my enthusiasm even more now. Terrible manager who got the job by default, england will be even more boring to watch.

I don't think there's ever been a period where I've given less of a toss about the national team

As an Evertonian, what impetus is there to support them?

Our players rarely get selected and, even if they are, either they don't get on the pitch to begin with or they will play and will then get scapegoated for bad results

NEA any more

I hope Scotland pump them

It just bores me to death. Oh england are playing again this week are they? Against some crap eastern eropean team who have a population of like 50 000, i wonder how these millionaires will cope?

Then come tournament time we then fail to deliver because the FA have duped themselves into believing the manager beating minnows to qualify are actually any good.

compare this to say brazil, who have to qualify past actually good teams to get anywhere near a tournament. Germany back the system, Spain back the philosophy etc. how international football should be. Instead we think Southgate who has achieved nothing as a manager bar relegation to be a choice for the future?

The euros did it for me, just a load of crap in the end, and all from a manager who was only chosen then to be a 'safe' choice.

Don't underestimate the mighty Three Lions. Any team that can field (at the same time!!), Adam, Jordan and wee Raheem, are a match for any opposition.

They can't be possibly be more boring than they are now.

With southgate in charge they will be lol

England in general is just a horrible system. You would say promote the under 21s but then they aren't playing club football because of the money clubs not playing them in the first team. So that creates a microcosm of these future players not being able to develop to play for the first team because they aren't doing it away from the national team.

Compared to Germany, who reguarly play young germans in the national team and at club level so they have a very ambitious set up.

As you say, not many playing first team football.

I know there's a home-grown player rule for squads numbers, but maybe they could create a new one that says clubs also have to play at least one or two young players in every game?

It'd even the playing field, as I'm sure most of the 20 clubs in the Premier League have at least two decent kids they could put out there, and it would give young home-grown players minutes in the League every week, but wouldn't be a disadvantage overall because everyone would have to do it, so it'd hopefully even out

I think the nation's league, starting in 2018, should help to revive interest a bit.
