The galling thing is that its not down to signing world class players or the fact that they have spent £150mill. They have puuled away due to pure hard work.

They've wasted a lot of money in the past but they have signed youth and middle age players at their peak (who are expensive) whereas we go for mediocre outcasts and older players who are past their best and it doesn't work

Older players can be a quick fix in the short term but they decline rapidly as we are seeing with jags baines and williams. We have not replaced gradually with youth which is the issue we have simply let too many get old at once believing they will last forever.

...the Reds look a bit narrow, you can get at their full backs. Plenty of space out wide but they always look likely to score at the other end which is what you want. 3-1.

What i'm saying though is that their team isn't a complete level above ours as a whole, the new gap is purely down to the difference in attitude and work rate. If we matched that, with the bit of quality we have then we would be doing similar to these types of sides. Instead we step off them, let them play which breeds confidence and we are in a game. Liverpool fly out of the blocks and either get a goal or two to hit confidence or just keep going at the opposition to wear them down.

Which is why Depay probably isn't the right player for us, from his time at United.

Then again maybe Koeman can get him to put in more effort.

True but we can work hard all day long but older sides lack energy
