no, missed this one as i flew back home for xmas on Saturday night. Was expecting it to be much tighter with Espanyols good defensive record but I think Iniestas pass and Biteys touch for the first goal kind of ruined the game plan.
@WycombeToffee have you been to a derby at camp nou as an away fan? Think Quique will manage to build something decent on top of the defensive base he has set up? As I'm not local I would love to see Espanyol do well and have a real competitive derby again. I read the owner says he wants to buy a chinese player for the club, doesn't sound so good if they are interfering like that.
Undortunately I haven't been able to yet. Our fan group ESCE is going over to Barcelona for a match later this season though. That should be brilliant. Unfortunately, our derby record this century is as good as Everton's. Just 3 league wins since 2000.
I also think Quique will do very well. We had a shaky start to the season but are starting to come into form. Yesterday was unfortunate for us. We put up a good fight and started with a lot of intent, but I don't think any team in the world would beat Messi and Iniesta in that form. All four of Barcelona's goals were incredible in their own ways. Ours was pretty amazing too actually.
Hopefully we buy more in the transfer window. The starting XI is a quality team. However, the squad has very little depth. Injuries to Baptistao, Victor Sanchez, Diego Lopez and Javi Fuego mean we have to play Caicedo (absolutely useless slug), Diop (ok), Jiminez (dodgy keeper) and Javi Lopez (non-league standard). If Chen wants to buy a Chinese player I would be fine with it, so long as the player is good enough. I haven't heard very much about that though. This season is very much a transitional one to build upon with a new manager, new players and new owners. I'm very optimistic for the future at the moment. Hopefully we give Barca a good game at Cornella at the end of the season.
