Today's Football 2018-19 Season

Spurs aren't United, they really don't have the squad strength to compete over a whole season in the league, unless they're extremely lucky, and dont go far in any other competitions.

Winning a domestic cup like Birmingham City, Swansea, Portsmouth or Wigan Athletic have done relatively recently, is possible, but the jibes would only change 'to never won anything major', in truth the value of the domestic 'squad team' cups are falling rapidly, and decrease a little more every year.

The Champions league is a major trophy and being a cup competition they have a chance, but finance rules the league, and Spurs just can't be expected to compete on any sort of sustained basis, unless the once in a lifetime event of Leicester's season, starts to happen every few years.

They've overachieved massively imo, given lack of transfers and relatively understrength squad.

Think they have a better squad than United tbh. I mean the main thing you need to win things is a strong defence, spurs defence is a good two or three steps above united's options. All opinions I suppose. What spurs lack in money, they make up for in getting top class players cheap with low wages and I presume good bonuses, which is the way all clubs should act to get the most hungry players performing.

Yes 1961 was the last time they won the league, and the only other time 1951.

The season Leicester won it was an absolute freak, it was undoubtedly their one and only chance, so many all failed badly and all at the same time, it's like is extremely unlikely to ever be seen again, almost certainly not in most of our lifetimes.

If you actually examine who has knocked Spurs out of the cups, it is more often than not teams who you might expect should beat them more often than not, City, United, Chelsea, Arsenal. Yes Spurs would have a chance but they are hardly huge surprises. Don't get me wrong, a cup would get a monkey off his back but Spurs really shouldn't be competing with these clubs anyway, in financial terms they just aren't in the same ball park

To move Spurs to a position of regularly qualifying for the Champions league from formerly only spasmodically being able to do so, is a huge achievement given the restraints on them, they have moved from a team aspiring to be amongst the top few to actually being one of them.

That is massive, far greater than winning a reserves cup.

Being a Champions league regular will do far more to eventually get Spurs competitive, winning an FA or league cup, although nice, will do next to nothing.

Yep, Spurs should be our aspiration... We're similar size clubs, but what they've achieved in recent seasons is massively impressive....good player and manager recruitment, and yes a slice of luck with Kane coming through the ranks...realistically we either need a Harry Kane coming through our academy, or buy a young striker before he's impressed enough that the big clubs have already snapped him up... And then find another eriksen, which has become so difficult... Moyes found Arteta (and Pienaar), so there are some gems out there if our current scouting system finally does their job..

whats up with the crowd noise in this united match ? is it not in sync ? Literally no reaction in the stadium whatsoever to his goal, bizarre.
