Why didn't the ref not even double check as well.
Lineker said on BT that if you are offside you are offside, but I thought if an opposition player passes you the ball you are on, I've seen plenty of goals given like that.

What about a backpass when a striker intercepts it or a defender plays it blind back to the keeper and a striker is there?

Pep must’ve felt a beaut after his celebrations there u know, that’s the main problem with VAR u can end up getting buzzed off by some fellers watching a screen

If its not deserved, its not deserved at the end of the day. Rules and laws have been in football from the start, not over exuberant celebrations.

I think the rule is if it's touched by a teammate, but in practice it means the teammate actually putting the ball through.

Otherwise, if the rule is the last player who touches the ball counts, then any pass that gets a nick off a defender would mean the striker was onside?

Common sense tells me that Eriksen has played the pass, it's a deflection off the City player and therefore it should be onside because there's no deliberate action from a City player to give an assist.

A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by:

  • interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate or
  • interfering with an opponent by:
    • preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or
    • challenging an opponent for the ball or
    • clearly attempting to play a ball which is close to him when this action impacts on an opponent or
    • making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball

Doesn't have to be deliberate, simply says touched by a team mate.

Incredibly harsh but seems to be the correct decision.
