It may work out for you regardless but I really really would have waited until after the game in Seville to post these. Some of it is definitely true but it is a little bit of a sunny take on things that could look different if Spain hit their top level.

Can't say i wasn't warned.

Absolutely massive for England's progress under Southgate, we're still starting off on the planning but this was a huge boost for confidence.

Superb first half performance and hung on with a two goal lead until the very last seconds, crucially ahead on the head to head if all tied at the end of the group.

It's significant as a marker on our progress, but these are still only the early stages of planning for England, hopefully we can improve by the Euros.

I was out and couldn't watch. What is the England fan reaction? I mean that seriously what did you think?

Alan Smith said Gomes had a great game. Well, in the centre of defence we conceded two headed goals to players who had not an England shirt near to them...

Just listened to Gareth Southgate, fair play he is level headed. Not over hyping on the performance, but saying we still have room for improvement. Also seems as though he has got the players wanting to play for England.

Hugely encouraging and massive for confidence. The first half was absolutely outstanding from England who mixed it up, both short and long passes, totally ripping through the pressing game Spain like to play, and at pace too.

Rapier like counters, rather like Leicester in their pomp, making the possession stats look the complete irrelevance they can sometimes be. Spain had a decent first ten minutes, but after were just stunned and shell shocked trying to regroup at half time.

The second half performance was one were England looked stubborn in defence, prepared to protect such a sizeable advantage, and still posed a threat on the break.

Pickford's error aside, it wasn't until the substitutions that Spain really threatened as we fell asleep at a corner, and a headed goal resulted. To me it always looked unlikely they could come back, even though the last second goal made the scoreline more respectable, England held on comfortably enough to notch a famous win.

Youngest England team in a competitive game since 1959

(At senior level)

The planning is now obvious even if a long way to go

Spain haven't been beaten in a competitive game at home for 15 years. (2003)

Leicester in their pomp lol, ease up a bit.

But seriously it wasn't a problem at all that Spain had 23 shots to England's 5? I saw highlights of only the goals and there was no mix of long and short passing just route one from the keeper. Which is fine if that's what is on but also not a sustainable strategy. Again I was not able to watch so I really don't know but what I have seen makes the scoreline look a bit flattering or at the very least not necessarily repeatable.

He’s learned from the best in the business in that respect at Liverpool in Van Dijk. If you’re nowhere near the action in the penalty area then you can’t ever male an error and everyone will think you’re a rolls royce.

England are where they should be tbh. Southgate actually has them performing in a style they’re comfortable with. It’s the first England team for ages actually performing to the level of their talent. The problem is that that level is still probably short of the best because we genuinely don’t have a crop of world class players in the way that France do. That’s not Southgate’s problem though. It’s far better watching him actually getting decent players playing well than the procession of idiots that preceded him they had genuine world class players and had them playing like a pub team.
