What was Southgate seriously hoping to achieve with those games? mind-numbing team selections and the players themselves clearly phoned it in. Just a useless exercise really..

Quite a lot was learned IMO. Bowen, Toney, Mainoo, Gordon all enhanced their claims for a place. Foden put in an excellent performance on the left last night which is encouraging for the Euros. Maddison put in a nice cameo off the bench. Dunk has played his way out of contention etc, etc

Cole Palmer and Branthwaite not getting a single minute but Dunk and Gomes

Defensively and importantly, we have gone backwards. The constant use of Maguire in two friendlies before a major tournament who had been very very questionable for seasons plus complete lack of options at right and left back.

Southgate has no tactically ability and his plan B is go like for like. We should be playing 3 at the back to allow for the strength of our attack to overwhelm teams.

Palmer was ruled out of the first one due to injury I think? Don't know what his fitness level was for the second one
