Today's Football - 2023/2024 Season

Nothing wrong with the rule for me.

Players getting injured is an unfortunate side effect but it’s far better for linesmen to play on, in the interest of sport.

If they put their flag up every time it was tight they would inevitably rule out opportunities to score.

Before this was the rule, people constantly moaned about tight onsides being flagged as off. That was why they changed it.

The only way to fix this particular issue is for technology to be used which automatically decides offsides similar to goal line technology.

Just a prime example of the media desperate to find something to complain about, and managers not helping either.
You are 100% correct. The flag cannot go up on these offsides while we have VAR because it will inevitably lead to a scenario where good goals are disallowed with early flags.

It can't be right that we would have a system where a goal can be disallowed where the linesman incorrectly did not flag for offside, but where the linesman incorrectly flags for offside, we can't award what would have been a perfectly good goal.

Until they have an automated system for offside, then we need to let it play out then the flag goes up. Injuries unfortunately can't be removed from football or top level professional sports.
