Today's football.

Its only been since 2005 or 6 though that its been like this, before then the two sides were dominant but smaller teams could challenge them - Depor, that great Sociedad side, Bilbao, Atleti, Valencia and Sevilla.

What the "little" sides need to do is what del Nido wanted to do last season and just tell Madrid and Barcelona that their tv deal was being renegotiated, and if they didnt like it they can just **** off. Or just send out sides to maim.
It's the fans of the little sides who need to boycott the games against Madrid and Barça. But they fill the stadium and buy the games on satelite tv, thus giving them a good hand when they negotiate their 'private' tv deal.

We should do the same in England (everywhere really) and blank games against the likes of City, Chelsea and Utd if we're worried about the influence and power they have.

It's not that the other spanish clubs are bad. They tend to do well in europe, just that every time they produce a top player they know they'll lose him.

Spain and Scotland are a lot more similar in that regard than people care to mention

Rangers and Celtic aggressively went about signing any promising young player at any of the other clubs, if only to stop the teams lower down the league from having them.

I like Scottish Football as it's generally much more competitive these days than it once was. It used to be that Celtic and Rangers would skelp most of the other teams and then just play each other. Now that Rangers have gone down, it's opened up a chance for some of the other teams like Aberdeen, Motherwell and Inverness to strengthen their challenge

It's going to take time though and required a catastrophic fall of Rangers to cause it

I can't see that happening in Spain

At the end of the day, I want football to get better in Scotland so I will try and support that league as best I can as it's slowly taking the steps it needs to

La Liga isn't trying to make things more equal and, if anything, is encouraging the divide between the top two and everyone else, the same way the Scottish League did for years

It's the same in most leagues.

See Rooney, Wayne.

There's 16 european clubs that eventually hover up all the best players. The CL killed any chance of real competition beyond those unless funded by massive money.

On an unrelated note,

Arsenal

Are things really as bad as people are making out?

Villa gave us all kinds of problems at home last season. It's not like they got beaten 3-1 by Cardiff or trounced by Spurs

They had a bad afternoon. It happens

I just don't see any reason to run for the lifeboats just yet

Villa also lost over two legs to bradford and got spanked by eight goals at chelsea.

Plus wigan beat them 3-0 and southampton 4-1. They're not a great team by any means.

Hell we spanked them at villa park and they're our bogie team.

This you Alan?

Yeah, that's me on the right!

Well, as expected we had a right go. I don't think Spurs will be kept out for 90 mins in open play too many times this season. Was surprised (read "mortified") to see the starting line up but we had a pretty good bench and used it well. Phillips hasn't got 90 Premier League minutes in him, Chamakh has been unwell for a couple of days and Glenn Murray (30 goals last season) won't be back until November at the earliest. Jedinak was outstanding, Delaney and Gabbidon are a decent partnership, Joel Ward was good at RB and even Moxey (currently third choice LB) settled well after early nerves. It wont be the last time we are passed off the pitch but even so Selhurst was rocking and we need to keep behind the team.
End of week 1. Not in bottom 3. Job done. 37 to go.

They are a team on the up though and they have a clear Idea of what they want to be and also how they plan to do it

And, it was the first day of the season. A big over reaction in my opinion

As mentioned in other threads though, I'm certain Wenger puts in a bid for Fellaini now
