Refs "guess" 50/50 challenegs and coming togethers like that every game, doesn't matter if its 100% clear cut either way, they're there to judge incidents and apply the rules. He thought that was a foul, asked the lino for assistence but he couldn't help so gave the decision as he saw it : a foul in the penalty area.

Thats how football refereeing has worked for years. Its so easy to watch numerous replays and criticise the ref for being wrong without actually realising why the ref would have given the decision, doing so is just stupid and ignorant.

Doesn't matter if the ref got it wrong, they get decisions wrong every game, thats human nature and you cannot change that no matter how much you moan about it.

But when it's a big decision like this one they need to be pretty certain they are right or don't give it, especially when he knows he will then have to send the player off as its double the punishment. If he was closer to where it happened then I could understand your logic but he was miles away from the incident so how can he have any idea and judge the incident one way or another.

And if that happened in Uniteds area and he didn't give it cause he wasn't 100% sure (yet replays showed it was a clear foul) he'd be recieving the same criticism wouldn't he?

He thought it was a foul from his position so gave it, its as simple as that, it doesn't make any difference to him whether its in the area or not, thats not how decisions are made.

Maybe he was sure it was a foul but is simply wrong. Until you get robots reffing games humans are going to be wrong.

There's a difference between a referee making a mistake and a referee being stupid. Giving that penalty and sending him off when he clearly wasn't certain was stupid, and should be condemned.

You are right mate, (deathbyropeandglass) it's a game played by humans and reffed by humans and humans make mistakes. Long may it remain so, it's what makes the game what it is. So, having accepted that, it is not unreasonable to discuss or criticise either players or refs.
At best, it was a marginal decision. It certainly wasn't definitive. I'm not the first and I won't be the last to think that Utd at Old Trafford get the benefit of the doubt. If that makes me brain dead in your eyes, do you think I'm bothered?

Braindead comments are ones that don't try and anaylyse or discuss the decisions but just say the ref is **** and ruined the game, stuff like that. I'm not saying you're saying stuff like that.

Why is it, if United get the benefit of the doubt at OT they had 2 pen appeals turned down first? Let me guess, the ref only gtave the pen cause he'd turned down 2 already, rather than the ref gave the pen cause he saw it as a foul?

And i said exactlt the same stuff last season in a massive thread on here regarding decisions against Everton, too many people just bitch and moan about refs without understanding how damn near impossible a job it actually is.

Criticising a human being for doing his job and making a split second decision on a 50/50 incident just because you watched numerous slow mo replays from different angles to make you decision makes you look like a braindead tit (thats a you in general, not you personally).

People need to accept it and move on really, insetad no doubt BT will go on and on about it post match, someone will probably say Moss was looking to be the centre of attention or some of that other bollocks people say about refs.
