shouldn't be standing there in my opinion ha. i just think they could have kept that rule and just used common sense tbh. obviously if two centre backs pass to eachother and a striker's in an offside position, wave it on. i just don't like this whole interpretation thing. i mean if you smack it down the right wing, but the striker is offside in the centre, he's still interfering with play because the centre back has to follow his run.

if you're a centre back, you're stepping up to play him offside which he is, the ball just hasn't gone in his direction, but he's got a 5 yard advantage on you now and is running towards goal. The winger squares the ball to the striker who is now not offside but has had that free run because he was originally offside and gets a tap in.

it's all interpretation at the moment of what constitutes second phase etc.

Just found these :

Saints second goal was correct to stand because no offside player challenged or stopped Naughton from playing the ball, even though their presence clearly distracted him.

Doesn't seem to be any mention of second phase in that lot, although there did used to be i think. Maybe they took that out cause it did cause too much confusion.

hah, so nobody clearly knows.

fair pplay to the ref for allowing the goal btw. i watch taylor and think he hasn't got a clue sometimes, but he is someone who actually lets a game flow and doesn't give these niggly fouls like everyone else does.

sadly if he wasn't ref, spurs wouldn't be level

I mean seriously, Spurs just will not go away will they?

My only solace is that Liverpool will put about 7 past them next week and, provided we win our game in hand, that will put us in a good position for 5th

they are one of the best away sides in the league like. think they'll cause liverpool problems, but their full backs are just too dire.
