*Hops off fence
Think he's decent as a player, he does the little things right and keeps a side ticking over.
I reckon the bad rep isn't entirely justified, he obviously went through a bad patch in a substandard and under-performing United team with infighting between management and senior players. Same as with our season, you wouldn't say all of our players are crap, but they and indeed the team haven't performed to the levels we know they are capable and expect of them.
Whether a change of scenery and environment can bring back some confidence, and if he can be good for us should he sign remains to be seen.

Neville was decent for a little while, especially when we used him at RB and during that year we got to the final.

Exactly. The fact that he ended playing so many games in midfield was an indictment of DM's thinking.

Seeing him giving 5 yard back passes, waving his arm, producing nothing of note used to drive me nuts.

Squad player who still has a potential upside. On a free, this is a very low risk/reward signing. No problem with it whatsoever. If he is gash, he won't play much unless we are in an injury crisis. However, if reuniting with El Bob brings back some level of form that he once showed at Wigan, then it's a bargain. Doubt his wages will be huge either. If he is the marquee signing in the summer, we're in trouble, but I don't think it will be.

and that is exactly the fear with getting another managers favourite in, i don't trust his objectivity, granted cleverly is a better footballer than neville, but if that's the benchmark we should be bringing jozy altidore in

Rumours were Villa were offering him £40k a week in wages.
