Tom Cleverley

Another one who gets unfair stick when he actually puts in 100% every game despite limited ability, which can't be said for all of our players including ones that get a pass on here. He's also far better than people make out. Not suggesting he's great or anything but he's just a slightly better than average player who works as hard as he can for the team. Beyond this season I don't see a future for him at Everton as anything other than a last resort squad player but he still doesn't deserve the abuse he gets from posters on here.

For me, there are players far more deserving of criticism at the moment. The ones who actually have far more ability than Cleverly on the ball although you wouldn't know it as they do nothing when they get it. Barkley, Mirallas and Deulofeu for example.

Cleverley runs around a bit, makes nice neat sideways and square passes, throws his arms up occasionally and that's about it really.

In terms of making an impact on a game, he offers virtually nothing.

At the end of the day, that's what they're actually there for, isn't it? Impact-making.

It's very difficult to look back on a game he was involved in and pick out any moments where his contribution changed anything.

Pretty much another of the "try to look busy whilst doing nothing" lot.

His greatest skill is finding space where the game will pass him by. And this is intentional.

Newcastle a year ago with his flukey goal.

But yes, agreed overall.
