Tom Cleverley

Terrible performance, clueless, gutless and no direction for someone who is supposed to be a Premier League player. There is absolutely no excuse for inaccurate passing, second to EVERY ball, chasing round like an idiot. It was probably one of the worst performances I have seen from an Everton player, he shouldn't play for us again.

Nail on the head there Fletch. Not even the basic things you'd expect from the most average of premierleague players was present in Cleverley's performance yesterday. I see more brains from my lads Under 12's team.

I really don't see Barkley in the middle 3 of a 4-3-3

With Jimmy Mac and Besic injured, Cleverley was the best option for the formation he wanted to play, unless he was prepared to take a chance on Davies, which for some reason he seems unwilling to do
Don't know how you can watch his performance yesterday and think he was the "best option", regardless of the formation. The guy was clueless, it was an embarrassment.

Because regardless of his performance, he was the best player for that formation, because Barkley is better suited further up the park

Again, I'd've played Davies, but seeing as everyone is crocked at the moment, if you're playing a senior pro then Clev it has to be

Barkley would have been a round peg in a square hole, Clev was a crap round peg for a round hole, hence why the manager picked him

from the guardian 10 talking points:

4) Cleverley fails to impose himself on Everton team
It was interesting that, in response to a series of lacklustre performances, Ross Barkley was the man dropped from the Everton side by Ronald Koeman against Manchester United. Yet whether you think his demotion was harsh or not, not many could defend the identity of his replacement. It was tricky not to feel sorry for Tom Cleverley, removed after 65 insipid minutes to the sound of cheers from his own fans, but you can also understand why those fans were happy to see him go. It’s seven years since he made his senior debut and, in that time, he hasn’t really made clear exactly what sort of player he is, and the question that poses itself is: what’s he for? The moment that seemed to irk the Goodison crowd most came when he played a backwards pass near the edge of the United area as an attack built, thus removing all momentum from it, and seemed to sum him up neatly. Perhaps Barkley does need a spell out of the team, but replacing him with Cleverley, a player for whom a sideways pass seems to represent the height of ambition, is not the way to go. NM

The bit on the edge of the box was incredible. Basic skills and awareness and he'd have controlled the ball and turned, instead he was unexpectant, sloppy in control and ultimately bullied. Shambolic. Should never play ahead of Barkley or Davies again.

but he will, guaranteed

No matter how bad he was, and boy he was bad, cheering a player when substituted is classless and just wrong.

Made me really angry yesterday that Evertonians are better than that.

Makes me feel angry when people come on here supporting the lad and claiming he's not utterly diabolical at football. He got off very lightly yesterday. He deserved a lot worse.
