biggest problem with society today. Everybody feels there opinion matters, when it dosent!
Social media has alot to answer for

Your opinion on social media does NOT matter. Neither does your opinion on society. That's the problem nowadays mate. Your opinion does not matter. Not that it matters, but I blame social media impacting todays society.

Hes not a bad player...just one more of 50 or so who are the same in the prem ... will have a career but let’s be honest jonjo Shelvey is a better player
Shelvey is 7 years older in fairness, but they did have similar records as young players so it's not a bad comparison to make.

Davies will hopefully get better with age and experience, and with having better players around him. Then again, he may not. Either way, I think he has already shown that he is good enough to have a career in the premier league, but he will have to improve a lot if he is to hold down a regular position in a top 6/7 team.

Personally I'm not that confident he will improve enough for that, but I can see him improving enough to be a valued squad player for us, a bit like Richardson and Harper were for us in the mid eighties. A club like Everton will never be able to build a squad of top drawer players as we wouldn't be able to keep them all happy. Players like Richarlison will never spend more than 2/3 years with us as we'll always be too low in the food chain. We can replace them in the transfer market but I still think that players such as Davies (assuming he improves) will continue to be the mainstay of our squad whilst (hopefully) the stars come and go.

Correct, it does not matter!
Marco Silva's opinion matters, Marcal Brands' opinon matters

The one thing Davies has done for all four managers he has played under is to follow their instructions to the best of his ability, whether it’s a starting role he’s not familiar with, coming on as a sub, or changing his role if we are down to 10 men. Arguably this is what any player should do , but not all do and I believe this is one reason Silva picked him as Captain. You could see a bit of it on Sunday when Silva was giving him pitch side instructions during a break. In the modern game with technical areas you need a captain who’s your conduit to the rest of the team, someone you trust to relay the message and help carry it out. Shouting instructions at the nearest player cant work all the time. Davies is clearly not Captain for being the best player we have, nor for being a blood and guts leader they’ll all follow, Silva trusts himto carry the plans onto the pitch, for me it’s as simple as that.

I like Davies, but then I like most of our players, I’m an Evertonian. But I can see where his weaknesses are. I can shrug off the mind numbing passes to the opposition he does too frequently, others are equally as bad during a game and it is something you hope he will improve on. His biggest problem for me is is inability to change a game or influence its outcome enough. He’s a better attacking mid than Gana and Schneiderlin and a better defending mid than Gylfi, and often he’s caught in the middle . If Gylfi is not able to change the game , as I believe he should be doing more often, Davies is not able to step up and change the game himself. Similarly if Gana/ Schneiderlin are having poor defensive games he struggles to be the sole one to break up attacks . But at times he’s the only player who is able to provide a bit of defensive nous and attacking nous, Gylfi rarely provides anything in defence, Gana/ Schneiderlin rarely anything in attack.

The other aspect that he is weak on is his technical ability , which links in to his ability to influence games. If the ball is say punched out to him on the edge of the box he’s as likely to miss kick, send a shot for a throw in or maybe get a weak shot away. We have youngsters like Dowell and Joe Williams who don’t contribute as much in a game as Davies but both at times produce a spectacular finish that alters the outcome of a game. It’s a missing that when he drives the ball forward from midfield you rarely see him get a decent strike on target. It’s a bit sad that a lot of people have made up their minds about him already , he has deficiencies that need to be worried on, but he’s nowhere near as bad as the “get shut” remarks would have you believe. He captained his country at 17 and our club at 20, managers obviously see something in him.

How do you know what his instructions were?? I like Davies but one of my problems with him is that for a midfielder who seems to be meant to sit deep and help out defensively, he's all over the place positionally. I think that can come with time but I'm surprised you think discipline is his strong point.

So essentially the many are comparing a 20 year old to seasoned PL pros of many years his senior, not quite sure if that’s a failure or success on his behalf.

Can a 20 year get better at football, develop his game and hone his skill if only there was such a thing as coaching.

This thread is quite mad. But excellent vaulting.

20 year old players are supposed to have limits and areas to learn and improve. Poor lad in on to his fourth manager in two years of his professional career.

Everyone wants to develop young players, everyone wants them given an opportunity in the team, then everyone wants to sell them when they are not scoring crackers against City every week.

Very much a good news story is Tom and one of our own., should and deserves far more lee way based on above. For what I don’t know why, has been top after a predictively harder second season.
