Is satisfactory. Should remain as a back-up as long as Gomes and Gueye are fit.

The general problem with him--at least right now--is it is very difficult to discern exactly where he has talent. Certainly, he has talent in some general sense of being a professional player, but what are his specific strengths? Good delivery? Makes saving tackles? Finds the appropriate forward pass? Calmness under pressure? Etc. Where does he excel over and above the average pro player?

I would hate to coach him. "Erm, son, just go out there and do...whatever it is you do...that you think you are best at...whatever that is...[cough]."

My advice to Davies would be to work on his stamina and short passing. I don't think he has the ability to play as a box to box midfielder. His best hope is to be someone who plays with high intensity.

You know, when Gomes held of that Brighton fella and layed it into Coleman's path for the goal...

Can't help but imagine if it was Davies (not Gomes), him getting knocked off the ball, sitting on the ground apealing to the referee with outstretched arms for a free kick. Same time Brighton are rapidly breaking up our right flank with Coleman well out of position.

People say he can learn from Gomes in training... but you only really learn game management by playing games. Which he is not going to do, if Gomes is available.

He is a young player trying to break into a very good side. Silva appears to be a manager who has a system and he knows exactly what type of player he needs in each position, if you aren't the type he needs you won't play. Tom appears to be trying to be an all rounder. Those type of players don't play in very good teams, top teams don't need a player who is good at doing three things they need three players who are excellent at doing one thing. Tom needs to concentrate on becoming a holding midfielder, winning the ball and giving short passes to players with vision and passing ability.

I expect that Davies is learning every day in training what the manager wants from him in a game. His chance will come again and he will be a better player for the work that he is doing now.

Gomes was signed for big money by Barca. Davies is contesting for a place in the team with a seriously talented player, a player that would not look out of place in any Premiership team.

We've had a good win so obviously some people's first thought is to abuse the 20 year old midfielder who the manager trusted enough to make captain.

Genuinely don't get it with some Everton fans and local players. They seem to loathe them. Jealousy?
You have to hand it to them. They are committed to the course. You'd think they'd be happy now he wasn't a regular starter but it looks like they won't stop until he's forced out of the club altogether.

He's 20 FFS, a regular starter for England U21s and just been shortlisted for best young player in Europe. You'd think fans would be proud.
