We've had a good win so obviously some people's first thought is to abuse the 20 year old midfielder who the manager trusted enough to make captain.

Genuinely don't get it with some Everton fans and local players. They seem to loathe them. Jealousy?
Are you kidding? Our fans get their willies out at any academy player that gets near a 1st team squad. They become the most amazing player ever despite being god awful.

Our first choice midfield looks boss, and Davies is now out of the spotlight, although he’s still getting grief for some reason...

He’ll either get his head down and try to fight his way back into the team like Keane has done, or he won’t. I would hope - and I’d like to think the majority of you would, too - that it’s the former, especially when getting Gomes permanently isn’t yet a fait accompli.

You know, when Gomes held of that Brighton fella and layed it into Coleman's path for the goal...

Can't help but imagine if it was Davies (not Gomes), him getting knocked off the ball, sitting on the ground apealing to the referee with outstretched arms for a free kick. Same time Brighton are rapidly breaking up our right flank with Coleman well out of position.

People say he can learn from Gomes in training... but you only really learn game management by playing games. Which he is not going to do, if Gomes is available.

Fantastic, accurate observation. Totally right.

not enough minutes this season to judge him properly. other than the chop skill and goal vs city i don't know if i remember him having a great game.

might be just my memory tho.

The comments on here about this kid are embarrassing, and its nothing more than jealousy. Use are buzzing with 25 year old Gomes because he's had a few good games who cost 40m yet use are demanding a 20 year old Ev academy player be as good as him. hoping he doesn't make it so use can say "i told you so". Done the same to Barkley.
The only embarrassing thing here, is you referring to us as ‘Ev’.

Its a joke mate.

Get behind the lad, hes one of us born in the same place living the dream and giving it his best.

Cant understand why any scouse evertonian would want to see him fail, the wools i understand but dont count there opinion anyway.

Hes a 20 year old kid thats been playing in a mess of a team and still never shied away for the battle, embarrassing the abuse he gets. we talk about the players having loyalty to the fans etc and then you get idiots getting on his back, wheres the loyalty to our own!

For the first time he has a manager who not only seems to excel at working with younger players but also seems to be able to improve players pretty quickly.

Next season or so hopefully should see the lad develop his game a lot.

For the first time he has a manager who is not swayed by the "must have an Everton academy product to placate the fanbase" hysteria that has hamstrung so many.

I for one salute Marco's bravery (and indeed footballing nous) for jettisoning Tony Hawk at the earliest opportunity. There really is no getting away from the fact that the football is vastly improved.
