Delph takes responsibility on the ball from the back and doesn't panic on it. He isnt going to open defences that is why he should be paired with someone more inventive. Who that is? None of this lot that's for sure.

*sighs* We're so bad.
Again I'd describe Schneiderlin similarly so is it that crazy to suggest Davies is the best of the lot?

Delph does his job well.

Morgan (Im at the point at not dignifying him with a surname) doesn't do his job AT ALL. He just runs around, gets booked. Should have been sent off again today.

As I've said, Davies puts the effort in but was as bad as anyone in the mid today. Wins the balls and gives it striaght back, or loses it and then wins it back.

I think that's a very generous interpretation of Delph. If he's doing his job he's being asked to do preciously little.

Davies wasn't great today but he also excels when he has players to pass to and receive the ball from and Tosun, Sigurdsson, Richarlison, Morgan and to some degree Walcott all aren't that. I think Davies and Delph/Morgan/Gomes/Gbamin in behind Iwobi with Bernard wide left is by far the best chance we have of resembling an actual footballing side.

He’s never, ever, more than a 8/10. His absolute best means he has a good game. When he’s not at his best he’s just not good enough. Better than Gerrard though according to some on here. And Holgate better than stones. These people pretend to be knowledgable. Please don’t fall for it.

That has been very, very rare over the past two years. The thought of him and Schneiderlin playing every game over the next month is horrific.

Your definition of brilliant is very, very, different to mine.
T'is the beauty with opinions. I was born in 94 so I've never seen us as more than alright. In which case Davies has been the most alright out of all of them recently (especially if you only count midfielders.).

I know what you're saying though.

Oh same here. I’m only a decade earlier so I’ve actually probably seen a worse level on average than you. I’ve honestly never seen Davies or Holgate have a brilliant game though, only ever good. That’s the issue, when they drop off it’s a massive issue, because if you’re only an 8/10 at best, you’re a liability if you’re off your game.

I do have a soft spot for Davies though, because he does try and play. But if I'm honest I'm not the greatest judge of player because a pointless Ronaldo chop can endear a player to me (please see Sidibe as an example).

Holgate though, I've said before is not good enough in the air. And that's the difference between a championship right back and a premier league centre half. Which is unfortunate, and also for the Holgate thread.

Comes across as a decent lad and would love him to be a big success here like any of our players , I can’t honestly say I’m with some who highly rate him from what I’ve watched, for me the best talents I’ve seen from our youth set up since the Prem started are Wayne Rooney, Billy Kenny and Michael Ball.

I do think he was having his best run in a blue shirt for a couple of years in those 3 games before today but the next month is going to destroy him.

It will be harsh to lay the blame squarely at his door but the midfield is going to be so out of its depth in the upcoming fixtures. The only hope is that Delph stops being a sick note and finds some form to make us more solid in that area.
