2019/20 Tom Davies

I believe he's a player who will succeed in a good team as he did when he first broke through. When it's a mess he isn't good enough to fix it himself.

Nobody doubts his effort or commitment, he's just not a good footballer.
I have less issue with him today compared to Siggurdsson and Schneiderfraud, but when fit, Delph and Gomes are both miles better.

No idea how the Gbamin fella will turn out.
I have never rated Davies and you can check back at my previous posts to confirm this. Nothing will change my mind, he is not a premiership player and never will be.

However, he did have a couple of good games but it made me laugh that all his "He's one of our own" blue blinkered fanboys exploded on to this forum thinking that Tom has finally arrived...
Not a chance for me.

Delph takes responsibility on the ball. People expect him to be pinging passes like Xavi. He is a holding player, put him next to a decent player like Gomes (when hes in form) and it's a good partnership. As @mightymoyes says though, Fitness is awful.

Davies, Siggurdson and Schneiderlin as a middle three is almost criminal.
He’s Jay Spearing. He’s a bogstandard, lower league footballer (possibly as high as Championship, but time will tell which league he ends up in) who got a gig at a Premier League club as he’s a youth product. The club would never actually sign him.

Pretty much it. Much more slack is given to a youth product (both by the fans, and by the manager in being given a chance in the first team).

He’s not Premier League level, and I’m not sure he’s Championship level either. As I say time will tell what his true level is.

Holgate is another who doesn’t belong at this level. Keane is terrible, but he can do a job for a team that sits really deep (as he showed with Burnley), Holgate couldn’t do a job for anybody. He’d be a regular in a relegation outfit. He did not look good on loan either. He’s another who has got a gig as the previous incumbent is bobbins.
He’s never, ever, more than a 8/10. His absolute best means he has a good game. When he’s not at his best he’s just not good enough. Better than Gerrard though according to some on here. And Holgate better than stones. These people pretend to be knowledgable. Please don’t fall for it.
T'is the beauty with opinions. I was born in 94 so I've never seen us as more than alright. In which case Davies has been the most alright out of all of them recently (especially if you only count midfielders.).

I know what you're saying though.
I do think he was having his best run in a blue shirt for a couple of years in those 3 games before today but the next month is going to destroy him.

It will be harsh to lay the blame squarely at his door but the midfield is going to be so out of its depth in the upcoming fixtures. The only hope is that Delph stops being a sick note and finds some form to make us more solid in that area.
Even when Gbamin comes back it's going to be a ridiculous ask. Hard enough adapting to England, never mind when you've had a serious lay off.

My view (which ive posted many times) is:

Gomes: Massively inconsistent.
Gbamin: Cant judge till next season
Davies: Rotation option

Basically we need to sign one superstar centre midfield monster...a Vieira, Keane type from somewhere. Then we pick one of the other three next to him based on form.

Davies gets a lot of stick but no doubt he puts in the effort and wants to win. Worth being in the squad as a home grown option.

Tom and Mason at least look arsed.

I know that the minimum for a pro, but that's enough for me right now with these bunch of gobshites.

Both classed as home grown and worth their places in the squad.

If he had been bought you’d have a different view.

Good attitude or being an Evertonian shouldn’t be enough (for some it is).

No, it isn’t enough to simply be an Evertonian but people forget, he’s still only 21.

The time, latitude and patience that we are prepared to grant other young players (Moise, for example) should be trebled at the very least, in my opinion, because he’s an Evertonian.

If Davies became available tomorrow I guarantee top six sides would want him. It’s not even in doubt. He’s got quality and has had some fantastic performances for us. Even this season, surrounded by the dross that he is and in a team lacking leadership, he’s arguably been our best player.

Alongside Richarlison, he’s our biggest asset, I can’t understand why people are so eager to throw the baby our with the bathwater.

Defensive midfield on sunday i think, same role as he has excelled for England U21s.

Could make the position his own till Gbamin is fit.

One thing you will get from Tom whether you rate him or not is 100 commitment and passion to the club something that a quite a few of his team mates lack.thought he looked really good along side gomes but obviously that’s not going to be the case in these next few weeks with injuries I see Tom having a lot of responsibility on his shoulders in that midfield.
