It means that we would be better off not criticising then we do not run the risk of affecting their game.

It's quite simple really

It is nature to criticise when they are not performing well or not up to required standard. Would you sit there and applaud a wayward pass or groan.
If a player is getting criticised often then it is obvious he is displeasing the critics for one reason or another.

That is the risk. How long of not improving the team or himself can a PL team allow. Different with a Championship or lower club as they can bring on players over years

How does a Championship or lower league player get longer? The pressure is still there to get results and the financial pressures are often greater so the luxury of developing players at the expense of team performance often isn't there.

Fans will also get on the back of players they don't believe are good enough at ALL levels.

I assume he means that if Davies had been playing for Sheffield United the fans wouldn't be concerned about his performances because they'd be perfectly acceptable at Championship level. The same pressure is there for an equivalent player, but Davies wouldn't be an equivalent player at a club like that.

I just watched the highlights. Seems that 2 of their very best 3 opportunities were pure gifts from Mr Davies. At this point, he keeps regressing and seems he will never be premier league level, the first was one of the most schoolboy things Ive ever seen.

But it comes across as a lower league club can afford to have players performing below the standard required - they can't.

And I don't think Davies, at his current levels, would necessarily walk into and shine for a Championship club. Numerous young players such as Harry Kane and the current crop at Chelsea all had spells in lower league where they struggled to perform and eventually found playing time hard to come by.

Well he was replying to a post about Lundstram getting better over the course of 4 years. It makes sense to say that he was evidently already at a level where he was OK playing in the Championship before he improved and reached the level he's at now, but Davies is already at PL level, and we don't necessarily want to wait another 4 years to see if he improves.

I'm not saying he'd walk in and shine for any club in the division, but he's certainly good enough to play in the Championship. Joe Williams is playing there and Davies is pretty much universally regarded as being better than him so it would be pretty weird if he wasn't. Kane was 19 when he had his struggle in the Championship, Davies is 21 and a lot more experienced, there's no comparison between their situations really.

The proof in the pudding for me is when he plays under 21's and he shines in those games.

But it is counter productive. Read what David James said about it, all you are doing is helping the other side cos when heads go down you may as well take em off.

Davies can hold his own in individual games though, as could Baningime, Markelo etc. The issue is doing it regularly, and going beyond holding your own. I don't think Lundstram has developed into the type of player we wish we still had, he's just a good professional who doesn't look wildly out of his depth. The same would apply to most Championship level players.

The point I am making is that Lundstram has improved since he left and is now 25, so Davies at that age will be a better player than he is now so it's too early to write him off as saying he isn't Premiership standard as quite a few do on here.

He is still useful to the squad at his present level.

Well firstly you can’t say he will be a better player. He might be, but he might not, one player improving is not a sound basis for assuming they all will.

Secondly, as I’ve said, even if he does improve that wouldn’t necessarily make it worth keeping him for another 4 years. If we move to Bramley Moore with a team where half decent jobbing midfielders are still par for the course, the question of whether 52k was big enough will have a very emphatic answer.

He did. But just seemed rusty to me. A lot of players played some utterly shocking passes or ran into trouble last night.

Futher forward he was composed, kept the ball, passed and moved quick.

He needs constant games. The lads technical ability is there to see for me.

Hopefully it's rust. I can't remember him making similar howlers before off the top off my head?
