2020/21 Tom Davies

does no one think he should have closed down bruno for the second?

It's a botched rotation.

Fernandes picks up the ball. Davies, thinking he is still responsible for his man, plants wide to make himself as big as possible against an open Fernandes, while staying inside of his man. Digne, meanwhile, rotates to the man Davies was covering.

Davies realizes this in about a second and starts forward, but the heavy plant slows his reaction and now he's stranded in space. Fernandes looks like he's going to fire and again Davies plants and makes himself big, only to realize his error and start forward again too late.

Either Digne had very clear instructions to cheat like crazy towards the middle, or he was out of position all game. The result was an exploitable area at the corner of that side's 18 yard box.

Played well his passing was much sharper and good to see first time passes and not simple crab passes, good penetrating passes.

Tom coming into form at the same time Doucoure and Gomes are aslo in good form, Gbammin nearly fit and Allan is back.

My MOM yesterday, got a bit caught out for Brunos goal but he played well otherwise, better than the rest of the scared muffins. They started that game beaten did our lads, they were awful first half, not one attempt at goal, crap.

Tommy D was very good last night, MOTM for me, but he has been steadily improving under Carlo. I’ve always liked his attitude, he just doesn’t go hiding when he is up against it. Oh, by the way, he is not the first and won’t be the last marker to be sent for the papers by Fernandes. Tommy didn’t make Fernandes look good, Fernandes did that all on his ownio.

If we end up with Davies as our 7th choice midfielder I'll be happy. He's good enough to be a squad player but you would never want him as a regular starter. He is popular within the squad as well and is the type of player who will understand not playing every week.

I've been (rightly) slaughtered in here in the past for saying the lad has ability which he does. He has lots of unique skills, and is a decent progressive passer. The issue was his mental approach to the game. When he tried to do it, how he tried to do it, how often he tried to do it etc. Risk v reward essentially.

I actually think you can see the work Ancelotti is doing with him. He has really settled him down. Hes worked on him positionally a lot, but also his decision making. Hes not forcing forward passes as much now, which means theres more of an element of surprise when he does.
The only unique thing about him is a lack of ability. For once our entire defensive line-up was poor. We conceded three.
