2020/21 Tom Davies

I think that some people, in their non-constructive criticism of him over the past few years simply did not see the bigger picture. Yes, he has been poor but I, personally always saw a good player and a passionate player who just wants to play football for Everton.

1: Bad managers: This cannot be doubted. He seemed to be shoe horned in and never really given a specific role during a game. These managers just didn't know how to develop him or where to play him.

2: He was 18/19 when he came in, as some have mentioned, there is no idea of how good or bad a player is going to be throughout his career, at that age (apart from the freaks of nature like Rooney). A lot of pressure to try to be the main man was given to him by fans and when it didn't look like he was going to be the player he seemed, after one wonder goal, then the boo boys turned on him, and turned quickly, and at times very harshly as well. As a young player this is going to affect your confidence.

3: The players he played with, along with point one, did not give him the best opportunity to show what he has to offer, too many times he has been let down by the system or the fact that other players were not letting him develop. I think this is being shown this season and is very obvious to see, a manager comes in and sees how exactly to develop him, where to play him and who to play him with (when available).

4: Too much exposure: Again with the bad managers note, he was simply played too much. He wasn't ready for that amount of games at this level, he should probably gone on loan to get games or continue to be rotated/come off the bench.

I am certainly not saying he is 'boss again', because he has never been 'boss' but he had something about him and for the last few years he has been poor to decent. This season he has been decent to good, the last couple of games he has been great against very good midfield opponents. There is an obvious upward curve on his progression this season, under Ancelotti I only expect that to keep on rising.

He has a good engine and he does see the pass but his execution has been inconsistent. Physically he is poor for the PL being slow and weak. If we are looking to compete with the Sky 6 I think we should be replacing players like this

No coincidence his dip in form was when he was arsing around in fancy dress. He seems a lot more focused on his football and its showing on the pitch.

Good on the lad for realising he was slowly throwing his career away - working hard on the training ground.
This might be the dumbest thing ever posted on the internet.

Good to see him playing a lot better. The Spurs midfield was very disappointing though Ndombele aside and once he went off Winks was a joke. It’s one thing looking good against them and another taking on Fernandes Pogba, De Bruyne Gundogan Rodri, Fabinho Henderson Wijnaldum, Kante Kovacic etc.

It’s not a criticism of Tom, it’s a criticism of pace in the team in general. Even Siggurdson looked half decent against Spurs because they just seemed to vacate the midfield at time sin that game. There’ll be other games though when the lack of pace of the two of them together will be exposed and we’ll find ourselves hemmed in unable to break out of a press.

Our best team in my eyes still had Allan and Docuoure in midfield with Gomes as first sub but it’s good to see nearly every single player in the squad improving under Carlo.

I don't rate Winks, but he's a full international player. Tom D completely bossed him when he came on even though Winks had only just came on the pitch.

A lot of the criticism Davies gets is because he is not exceptional and is constantly compared to other players. He is a good player but there are better players in world football than him. Why that means he is not good enough for us in our current position has always confused me though.

I like Davies a lot and I'm very happy with how he's playing. There will always be room for him in our squad as far as I'm concerned. The expectations on him have always just been too high, such is the case with any young lad from the city.

So if a Doctor started spending more time studying ICT than medicine he would be fully upto date with knowledge on health/medicines?

Players get better through intensive hours in the gym and training ground - Davies was spending far more time dicking about playing dress up and attending cat walks with his mate Bellerin (who Arsenal fans largely can not stand) than actually learning the tactical side of the game and you could see it with his headless chicken routine out on the pitch.

No coincidence since he's buckled down that he's looking more tactically aware on the pitch and producing more in terms of his tackling/passing - all that is through hard work and extra hours of training.

If he never buckled down I think he would have been out the door this coming summer to a championship side as his career at the top flight was slowly slipping away from him.

There is no direct link between someone's hobbies and how they perform in their job

u buddy are a fine stand up man and an example to others in humility and personal growth. i wish u stand up and growth for many years to come and also young everton players reaching their potential for u to appreciate.
You sir are a true gentleman and I deeply value the process of reconciliation on offer here.

To continue the spirit of rapprochement and fellowship, I would urge an amnesty for all GOT brethren who similarly suffer Tom Davies related rage and downstairs issues.

Come forward my blue brothers. Don't suffer in silence. LET THE HEALING BEGIN!

But being a Premier League footballer isnt the same as stacking shelves or being an admin assistant is it?

At the elite level you have to be putting in serious hours of dedication especially if you are not naturally gifted like a Cristiano Ronaldo or a Luis Suarez which Tom Davies certainly isnt.

Those on social media who were encouraging his bad behaviour were doing nothing positive for his career "ah look at da Davies on his skateboard wearing purple high heels go ed Tom lad!"

Thankfully Carlo has probably sat the lad down and told him what he needs to do to succeed and to be fair he's doing that.

Don’t wanna go overboard but I think based on Wednesday and probably the Wolves game away there is a clear improvement in Davies. I am sure posts like above could be found in the hundreds aboout DCL a year of so back saying he will never be a finisher and can’t link play so get rid or we will never compete with the sky 6. It seems to be the train of thought that if your not the finished article within a few years your never going to be. Thankfully Everton see it differently. They have invested game time in DCL and Davies for a good 3 years and a lot of the time it has cost us points. But now we have two players who young academy products but have much more experience than most players their age and we are getting the benefit. Davies still has to prove he can push on the way DCL did but I think the view of a lot that see him as not good enough is very narrow, there is massive scope for him to improve physically and become a player who controls games in a few years. Dacoure ans Allan have been bought as finished articles, let’s see what this lad is like in a couple more years, he may be one of the best around.
