I’d play him as a holding / defensive midfielder in front of the back 4, in a midfield 4, with 4 central midfielders, no wingers, a 4/4/1/1. If Everton get Gilmour I’d put Gilmour in front of him, with a central midfielder to his left and right in a diamond. Give him less to do and more support in midfield and he might be decent

We are discussing degrees of uselessness, it is extremely difficult to say a midfielder who can’t pass the ball is worse than a defender who can’t defend or a forward who can’t score. Discussing whether Davis is worse than Rondon or Holgate is a bit like saying you would rather be stabbed than shot, these things are extremely bad, a bit like Davis, Holgate or Rondon.

I think you're absolutely correct. I can count on one hand good footballing performances from Everton in the past 3-5 years. The utter dross we are served almost week in week out and still turn up.

We lost these games purely because Everton as a side .....are crap
It's not a singular issue, it's a team issue and it started unravelling after Moyes left.
Not that Moyes was an amazing manager....far from it...
He did however know how to get the best from a side who was filled with middle of the road players though.. Tom Davies is a middle of the road player. He is not the issue... These abject performances are at Moshiri's door....and his only.

The team would be built around Gilmour. But the point I was trying to make was to give him less responsibility, less to do, protect the defence, give the ball to the other midfielders, preferably Gilmour, occasionally hit it long to the forwards. Make his role simpler and it might work.
