When a hometown player like Tom comes along things get difficult for supporters, everyone wants to see him do well and hold down a place on the team. It is a romantic thing, a type of Roy of the Rovers situation, if one of our own can make it then anyone can. Unfortunately in the modern era there is no room for romanticism, it matters not whether you are from down the road or from the other side of the world, the only thing that counts is the result. Tom doesn’t have the qualities to play regularly in the Premier League, he lacks the ability to drive a team forward and he cannot patrol in front of the defence to the degree where he can command a starting place on Everton. He seems to fall somewhere between these rolls. I think he could well play at Championship level football and make a success of it, he has plenty of Premier League experience. His difficulty would be, in my opinion, dropping down and being able to apply himself, he would need to go to another level with the mindset of “this is who I am, this is where I need to prove myself” and not going somewhere with a chip on his shoulder.
I think Tom is a sort of bellwether for Everton, if he is in the team then it indicates that we are not good enough to compete in the Premier League, that said, I wish the lad well, I would like to see him playing regularly for a club, I think he would benefit from playing regularly but I don’t think that it would be Premier League standard.

That's why the links with Rangers sounded good for him, not the greatest standard but he would get a chance for a bit of intensity in the old firm games and also the chance to play in Europe. they ended up going for Cantwell though in the end.

Honestly his confidence seems to be coming back bit by bit. It was completely shot after bossing the Derby. He's definitely got quality about him and I hope he can turn it around under Dyche.

On the topic of lower leagues I genuinely believe he would look exceptional in France like Gomes or Italy or somewhere.

Yes look on the pitch today and it’s plain to see why we are in the position we’re in simply not enough quality out there and the striker situation all season hasn’t helped one dud after another just being a body on the pitch and not offering anything else, as soon as we went a goal down I knew that was it and fear we’re going to see it more times than just today real worry we aren’t scoring goals or just nicking 1-0 wins

It just perfectly shows you the jump up from youth to professional football. Just think of the players we had in that England u20 world cup win.
or just that whole team in general and where the players are now...

Our own class of 92 lol

Pennington / Callum Connolly not that good really but
Kenny, Davies, DCL, Lookman, Dowell were decent, but one thing in common I find is that they didn't develop physically (apart from DCL, but injuries are another story for him)
