So no club should have backup players to the first teamers? This isn't Footie Manager. We can't have 3 starters and 3 high potential kids. Doesn't work like that in the PL.

We can sign young players with potential for less, they won’t all make it but some will.

The cost is less but the payoff can be greater.

The squad should be a mix of both strategies. Players we think are good enough to command a 1st team spot and players we think have the potential for it.

Buying ‘backups’ is like admitting they aren’t ever going to be good enough and then being surprised when they don’t perform and we can’t sell them.

He's the heartbeat of the club and we've finally got a manager who realises we shouldn't be trying to fit him into the team but instead we should be building a team around him. A huge season to come.

…Gbamin and Gomes are still under contract, both also offer Ineffective back-up.

I’d 100% play Andre Gomes before even thinking of ever using Tom Davies again.
