that’s like saying why hasn’t anyone of our previous managers tried to sell keane etc probably cos there all rubbish and they know know one else wants them , unless it’s a free or a loan with us paying most of the wages the everton special
Not the same

This is just confirmation, if we needed it, that our financial position is dire.
If we could afford it, then surely we would be buying more quality. As little as 10m should achieve that, but we simply can't afford it.
It's confirmation that we can't spend £10m on a 5th or 6th choice centre mid.

Hardly surprising, given the number of other positions where we desperately need a new 1st or 2nd choice

If he accepts any kind of contract offer, he's accepting he's an outfield version of a 3rd choice keeper - there to make up the numbers, maybe get the chance to start one full game a season IF LUCKY and a massive injury crisis occurs.

I'd be very surprised if another club would even come close to matching what he's probably been offered at Everton so it will boil down to whether he wants to be a professional footballer who plays week in week out, or if he values the financial security Everton will offer him for at least another season and put that ahead of first team football.

I get your logic, but other teams will probably offer him similar. Relatively speaking, he is on a low wage and most championship teams would offer him similar. The question is whether he would want to play regularly.

But I don’t think Davies is bad, as 4th/5th choice. Kenny is absolutely shocking and was 2nd choice behind Coleman who is also shocking.

….but your reaction to Kenny being offered a deal is probably worst than anybody’s reaction to Davies, not forgetting lots of posters don’t rate him either;

Do the honorable thing Tom and reject the deal. Surely it'd only be a one year extension seeing as we are in a period of uncertainty and have no idea what our finances or circumstances will be in 12 months. If so, he genuinely would be better accepting a long term deal elsewhere. There's a sucker born every second and hopefully we can find one to palm him off on.

That said, this is Everton and we've probably offered a 4 year extension. Imagine that, genuinely not having to work for a decade but getting 30k a week for it.
If he wants the best for his career he should reject it and seek first team football elsewhere - if he signs that tells me all I need to know…more interested in salary than a career as a footballer

We have an interesting cultural bias to local lads, is that a good thing or a bad thing - i guess its debatable, obviously ability comes into that to an extent as we don't keep everyone, but when you think about of lads like Ossie and Hibbert - even when were they left here - no one else took them on, yet spent a career here - which in its self is odd. We had Penno, JJK last year and Tom this year.

You have to acknowledge the financial benefits, there is no amortisation , so just nominal wages by top PL standards, this rediverts funds to other priority positions. It enables squad numbers at a low cost. While also keeping down our overall wage bill.

Its an interesting little subset of club cultural psychology and decision making in squad building.
