the 18 yr old yates whos on loan to crewe u23s recently stuck a photo up of his brand new merc. unreal
In fairness to James Yates mate, it was Jack Bainbridge another 18 year old who also can't get into our U23s, who was displaying his new merc with the company saying " thanks for the repeat business" , so two mercs and not out of his teens yet. As you say unreal, and maybe a reason so few fail to make it at even League2 level .

In a months time, we're going to be wondering wtf we didn't have him in our starting eleven from the beginning of the season.

He's deffo going to get the Barkley and Rooney hype from now on, so I can see the sense in protecting him somewhat from that, bringing him through relatively slowly, and not getting too carried away. However, now we see he's done really well when he's come on so far - showed great energy, attitude and skill. He's let nobody down, and has shown he's ready - ahead of all our central midfielders with the exception of Gana.

It's great that we have that talent breaking through, and that Koeman clearly has a selection dilemma on his hands of starting 18 year old Davies or our fading 35 year old vice captain Barry. I'd pick Davies over Barry every time, and would start him at Goodison next game. No question.

Well in Tom Davies, and keep on doing what you do lad!
There's more than a few of us who've already been wondering this!

I'll post more on him in the week when I have some time. Another composed display. The two things I will say about him though, is firstly I think he can be the type of player we all want Barkley to be. Sitting deeper, dictating play, tackling, covering ground and beating a man when necessary.

Secondly you can tell he was ready when he strolled on against Southampton. This isn't just me being wise after the event, feel free to check out posts I made in the Youth teams thread around that time. His performance and Connolly's were at a similar level, but Connolly was playing well within himself, while Davies revelled in it. Most of the young players we have, particularly around Davies's age have got the ability to do ok. That age group was very strong. They have technique, a grounding in the right mindset, be able to physically compete. What makes the difference is that maturity and being confident to excel on the pitch.

A wonderful performance. Common is a little retiscent about youth, but we are increasingly seeing younger lads getting a chance and I think that will continue.
I hope you're right about Koeman because his failure to integrate Davies, Dowell, Kenny etc into the team has been very poor. At the very least they should have played in the league cup games and been coming off the bench regularly. His comments a few weeks back about none of them being ready were particularly bad.
