I hope you're right about Koeman because his failure to integrate Davies, Dowell, Kenny etc into the team has been very poor. At the very least they should have played in the league cup games and been coming off the bench regularly. His comments a few weeks back about none of them being ready were particularly bad.

I think he is a very upfront man, who at times is "too honest". I also think he puts people in on merit, not on future gain. I think the Watford debacle has seen him re-appraise that slightly. I also think it means, in all likelihood Davies, Calvert Lewin and Holgate may now be fixtures in the first team.

We all want more young players in. If this season the above can get 10-15 appearances, and at the back end Dowell gets a handful alongside maybe Kenny that will be very positive for me.

Funny thing , of all our youngsters Dowell was the one who I most wanted to see make his breakthrough. But when I've seen him he's been the least impressive.

Haha, they're all at it, the one I posted in the Youth Thread about a month ago was Bainbridge .

In fairness it wouldn't surprise me if a local mercedes dealership had a promotional deal on. if I was a sales person for them, I would be targeting an under 18's cohort. As they say repeat business, and likely you will have 6 or 7 of them who go onto be amongst the top 1% in the country. There is a chance they may become multi-millionaires. It is common sense to give them favourable deals early on to build in loyalty.

On the wider point though, it is a little frustrating. They have done nothing in the game yet are parading around in flash cars. However that is what they are paid and if I learnt that sort of money I'd probably buy a Mercedes!

That being said, a lot has been made of how up to age 16/17 English players are just as good, but by 22 they fall behind. Much of this is a lack of opportunities. However you see a lot of foreign teenager willing to go abroad to get a break. A lot of equivalent players in England are loathed to do it. I think having that drive (mind the pun) is a major contributing factor for the difference in players making the grade.

He's the next Ledson.

Supporters don't actually know much about what it takes to be a top flight footballer unfortunately.

There is a difference between supporters making an opinion based on performances for the first team, as opposed to before they've made the step up. I agree that loads of our fans make claims before young players have even made a first team appearance.

From the little I have seen of the youngsters only Holgate and Davies look good enough to be in contention for a starting place with Kenny, Browning and Galloway potential to be on the bench.

I don't think Calvert-Lewin or Dowell are ready yet personally.
