I thought you were taking the mickey, now after multiple posts slating him I'm not so sure ... but then your profile picture is Davies.

So confused right now.

All players have limitations. Doesn't mean that he can't be a very good player.
He's all heart and hard running. But having seen him a few times now I dont see a great player in the making. He gave us a big boost when Gueye had to leave for the AFCON, but I think maybe his limitations are becoming apparent now.

what would you say his limations are?
for me he can tackle, pass, has an eye for goal, can run all day. basically has everything you'd need in a modern midfielder.

This is true of all young players though isn't it? Start well and then bed in a bit more when opposition scouts instruct players how to play against them.

He has all the attributes to succeed but as you rightly say nothing stand out. He can run, tackle, intercept, dribble, shoot and pass very well. All are the core skills you need from a central midfield player.

I would agree maybe he lacks an X factor but in honesty football is filled with lads who lack an X factor who still do well. Likes like Steven Davis at Southampton for example. Or Henderson accross the park. Or Livermore who's just gone for 12 million. If we can develop lads from younger teams at a similar level to that, free of charge then that will be fine for me.

I suspect Davies will go into play for England. He seems to have the right mental attributes which gets you a long way. (See Alli v Barkley, one is miles better but is also ridden with doubts). It probably says a lot about England and the national team as well. Primitive accumulation of cadre and all that.

His limitations are that he doesn't excel at any of them.

The lad himself was refreshingly honest about that in an interview a few weeks back. He even stated that what he has to do is to bring up the level of all those things you mention to stay in the team.

Not sure about the England shout (although maybe, as there's been some tosh who've had the odd game for that lot). But the examples you give above: Livermore and Davis are apt...that sort deserve a place in a starting line up at middle ranking clubs for sure. Henderson is different as he has a dig on him and can get a few goals, so that elevates him above the decent but unspectacular midfielders.

I'm not running Davies down. He can do exactly what he says he must do (improve all the core skills you mention above) and be a starter for Everton for years. But he must progress and develop his game from this point because, IMO, it wont be enough as is to command a starting place in a team that makes a tilt for a top four spot.

Not bad by GOT standards, Davies has a handful of games and is already been wrote off as not having the talent

The state of some of you

THIS, exactly this! It's unbelievable what some of you are saying. The lad is 18, just broken into the first team and has been a breath of fresh air but some people find it neccasisary to right him off already. Give the kid a break.

The scrutiny on some of you. Please note Davies passing ability and offensive effort is what he excels at. Compare his efforts there to McCarthy or Gana for starters.

Yes he is still young and lacks the wisdom of Barry or even Barkley but he definitely already excels. Harder and stockier than Dele Alli but silkier and smarter than f.ex. Rodwell, Ward-Prowse or Henderson at the same age.
