I'm worried about Tom's minutes next season, I still want him to be a starter. Don't care that he is 18, he made us better with regular starts last season.
With europe to cope with he will get lots of starts. Just be good to have enough players to not need to start our midfielders on a Thursday and a Sunday. Looking like we may be in a position to cope with that. A big squad is needed if we are to have a go in europe and challenge for a top 4 place.

I know it's hard for us Blues to think in terms of a modern day squad.

Look at Chelsea. They've got Willian & Fabregas regularly coming off the bench. Personally, I would say 20 minutes football a week, at the business end of the game is a pretty good deal.

Also, for 20+ years, we've only ever had maybe 5-6 quality players at any time. So if they could walk, they played. That often led to sub-parr performances & the resulting backlash from fans. Artetta would be a good example. Some fans were even having a go at Davies last season, when he was maybe tired.

Having a proper squad full of quality allows us to do what the top 4 do. Rest players & only play them when they're 100%. Plus the competition hopefully means nobody is coasting.

Wouldn't be surprised if we experiment preseason with him at rb.
Why not?

Regardless, even if we play with two defensive midfielders, he's going to get minutes there and elsewhere. If he's not playing regularly, that simply means we had better players ahead of him. That's a good thing.

Thankfully Tom is a utility player like a Diarra or a Milner. Can slot in wherever you need him and do a job.

Interesting thought. He played there for about 45 minutes last season in the second half of a home game, didn't he?

Thought he was great attacking but mediocre defensively (to be expected). Perhaps an option for when we're at home trying to push for a goal and the opposition have zero attacking threat?

Think he will get plenty of game time with the amount of matches we may have in Europe. Also think he will find it difficult to get in the best 11 if we continue to spend wisely. It is what we want to do to move another level. We need to continue to look for better players than we currently have and not rest on our laurels and if that means crowd favourites replacing then so be it. We have to keep building regardless of how good the team may be.

Does anyone know if he will be called to the Euro U21 starting in July? I think we're title favorites and it would be good to see Tom raise a cup, plus experience. But he would lose part of the preseason.
