could be a great time for mattioni's debut.

johnjo kenny is the future right back for a long time i reckon, hence why we haven't been overly worried about getting a backup right back in. i'd play oviedo there and find one of baines or mori at left back (i've lost track of who's injured, who isn't etc.), thankfully i have a hot date instead of watching us lose.

Playing tomorrow isn't he for under 21s? So surely if he plays a large amount of that, he wouldn't play the derby as hes too unfit?

Can Tony Hibbert solve Everton's right-back problems ahead of Merseyside derby?
Veteran expecting to feature for Blues under-21s against Man City on Monday

Tony Hibbert could be asked to solve Everton’s right-back headache - if he comes through a game for the under-21s on Monday night.

The veteran defender is expecting to feature for the Blues’s second string against Manchester City u-21s at Goodison (7pm).

Everton have been struck by an injury crisis ahead of the defining week of their season, in which they face Liverpool on Wednesday night and then Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday.

Seamus Coleman limped off during the second-half against Southampton on Saturday with a hamstring injury to join Phil Jagielka, Aaron Lennon, Leighton Baines and Tom Cleverley on the sidelines.

Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley, meanwhile, were only fit enough to be named on the bench at Goodison.

Coleman was replaced by teenager Callum Connolly, who performed well on his debut, but it’s unclear if Roberto Martinez would throw the Academy graduate in from the start against Liverpool at Anfield.

But Martinez’s options at right-back are limited.

Tyias Browning is out for the season after undergoing a knee operation while the absence of Baines and Brendan Galloway - both currently injured - would prevent Bryan Oviedo switching to right-back, as he has done this season.

The facial expression is enough to keep me awake at night.

Its almost as if he is staring into the souls of those kids

Really? I think his defensive play has been solid as anything. I know that's bizarre given our problems at the back but I can't remember one winger getting the better of him.

Going forward he's definitely dropped off, opposition teams have figured us out in that aspect.

Think all our full backs have been poor defensively.

Connolly came on and did fine, he should keep his place.

When was the last time he played a match !? ( or even made the bench ? )
No chance..... To be honest .... Rather have Connoly there

Yep agree with this. It's funny to joke about "can you imagine him scoring the winner and we riot" etc, but if he does start then it shows a real worrying lack of squad depth in that area. Much rather have a youngster get some game time. Wasn't it Browning who played RB at Anfield in the Jagilelka derby, was making his debut too wasn't he? Done a more than adequate job from what I can remember.

I think I'm right in saying in last season's EL games Hibbo played far better than we possibly expected him to. However, another 16 months down the line....

....I also remember when we were stretched and Hibbert had to play CB at Benfica. Not ideal but truly top defenders can make the switch. Van de Hauwe played LB but was classy enough to play virtually a full league winning season at CB, scoring the title winner at Norwich. Different gravy.
