Until we can't do it I'll never stop believing. James back if he plays the majority of the games we have a chance. 8 wins will do it and if we only lose one of the first 9 we won't need to beat City.

We'll do well to win 4. Sorry, I don't want to pop your bubble, but that's some pretty impressive levels of delusion right there.

Two sets of 4 like we have done twice earlier on the season. I'm not deluded I don't think it's likely but it certainly isn't impossible.

For this team it really is. When the chips are down, you are hoping they will win 80% of their matches? Not a prayer. Far more likely to lose 8 of them than win that many. We'll stumble along, win a few, lose a few, draw a few and finish 9th.

I think realistically we'll win 5 draw 2 which will give us 63 points which will probably be good enough for 6th/7th but until we can't achieve 4th I will believe.

"Believing" really isn't a virtue - especially when there is copious evidence to the contrary of your "belief" before your very eyes. It's been clear for a while that we are an upper mid-table team. That will almost certainly be confirmed at the end of the season. The next 10 games are less important than the summer. That's where the real action needs to happen if the future of this club is to get any brighter.

Maybe believing isn’t a virtue but being overly negative is just as bad. My 2nd suggestion is 5 wins in 10 which is 50% rate. So far this season we have 14/28 which is yes you guessed right 50% so I would say there is a chance based on stats that it happens. OK the 8 wins is going against the stats but not as much as your 8 predicted losses. Things have improved maybe not as much as either of us would like but I will never stop believing no matter what you or anyone else thinks. Give me your realistic points prediction and I'll give mine 63. 70 is my overly optimistic prediction. Well see whose closer at the end of the season.

People who have been completely right about Everton for 19 of the last 20 seasons are regularly called "overly negative" - but there's only been one season where the "overly negative" were wrong: 2004/05. You're the one saying "8 wins will do it" as if Everton are Sacchi-era Milan. I'm not predicting 8 losses. I am predicting 9th place - as I have for most of this season. Who knows? Maybe I am overly negative and we'll finish 8th. I'd say that's well within the margin of error. As for points predictions, if we have 10 games left, I'd imagine we'll win 4, lose 4 and draw 2. Something mediocre like that, befitting an upper mid-table side. Like us. I'd be thrilled if your "optimistic" take was correct. Indeed, I hope you are, but I can't see it. I am happy enough with this season. I see progress. I just want us to back the manager properly in the summer. Then maybe I'll join those of you with sunnier dispositions when it comes to next season's predictions.
