Absolutely knew it, all of our key players would get injured/suspended for the key game of the season. F**king typical. :@

Yeh just to confirm, the official iPhone app just notified me that Mirallas is "touch and go" for Sunday.

To be fair though if I was Moyes I'd want Spurs to think our best attacking player was injured too until the last minute, even if he's not- let's stay positive :)

They lose 3 quality players, we lose 3 quality players, I still put us with the better team to be honest.
They have a better depth in the squad than us, they'll probably play Holtby and Huddlestone whereas we'll play Naismith and Neville.

A good report from the OP.

With news of Lennon and Bale though I can't see Moyes sticking with a back 3 (something I didnt feel worked last week.

Maybe he might try the young lad Barkley out wide or he could bring Naismith in (which I don't want to see) or even Anichebe on the right. It would give us our standard formation though and it's something that feels comfortable now.

If Pienaar is still banned push Mirallas onto the right and Oviedo onto the left, or play Coleman RM and give Stones a game, we have options it's whether we are prepared to use them.

He's changed tactics once in 11 years and all of a sudden 3 at the back is like it's just been discovered or something.
If I could give you the thumbs, I would.

Three at the back made sense against Stoke and their one-dimensional hoofball, but does NOT make sense against Spurs - they don't use the same tactics as Stoke, and their injury list suggests they will have a LOT of centrally-minded attacking midfielders on the pitch. Why on earth would we gift them the middle of the park just so we can have a third CB to mark Adebayor?

Baines and Coleman have proved all season long that they can get forward from a coventional fullback slot. so the 3-5-2 isn't needed as a means of releasing them to attack.

What we need is balance, in the form of protection for the fullback's vacated space when he does get forward. We can do this by moving Coleman to RM and putting Stones in at RB, (low risk because Spurs don't have the personnel to attack our RB) and by putting someone OTHER than Mirallas in front of Baines.

Howard
Stones; Jags; Distin; Baines
Gibbo; Ossie;
Coleman; Mirallas; Oviedo
Anichebe

This allows Mirallas more freedom to be creative, and he can even push forward to make a 442 if necessary.

From their last game it was very clear that Tottenham have a weak left backside - Basel sent almost 90% of their attacks down their right -
so we have to sort out our right hand side attacks for Sunday -
that Tottenham gollywog/Fellaini looka-like is useless and Dawson is a snail at full pace -
this is where we needed a few exposed youngsters to step in and make a name for themself -
now we have a few uncertain youngsters having to perform miracles and maybe ruining their reputations in the process -
justifying them to be benched for another 2 seasons -
Tottenham is there for the taking with all their injuries - unfortunately we have problems of our own

Lennon limped off with a hamstring pull, Bale went over on his ankle, Defoe is out with a medium term injury, and so they have their own selection crisis to contend with. We just might see two sides employ defenders in the midfield flanks.
