I'm meaning the left sided "No10", the left forward, the left striker etc

Basically the left side of our attack. Not the center. The fact he can play on the left doesn't mean he can play the center and vice versa.

This sounds like something you'd read in a Brendan Rodgers coaching manual

The original point was that Mertens can't be our No10 because that means he plays in the center which he doesn't. He's a Pienaar type player. Pienaar can't play in our center either. He's been awful every time he's tried. It's a unique role.

Someone like Shaqiri is more suited than Mertens if we're looking for someone in the center however we need someone for the left.

Just don't see it as our priority area of strengthening for that sort out money being branded about. Better using it elsewhere, ACM/LW.

One injury to Jags or Stones and we're playing U21 kids with no premier league experience.

Move onto the next option ? Vlaar has been mentioned a few times, got prem experience and would get a few seasons out of him.

Ron Vlaar is now a free agent, think we would be stupid not to be looking at him. Good defender, good experience and a free transfer would make him an excellent signing in my opinion.

If we don't have much money to sign a CB then Vlaar is a good option as he is available on a free transfer and has been playing in PL for 4 seasons, that's what I call a proven PL defender （a starter for Villa）. Ok we all know he might not be the best but as a free agent why not. He is miles better than Alcaraz and last season's Distin.
