In terms of players who were world class when we signed them I'd say Kanchelskis (14 goals for champions the season before) and Beardsley would qualify. And Alan Ball too.

Austin must've told QPR he won't kick up a fuss, because they're playing hardball safe in the knowledge he'll sign a new deal. If he threw in a transfer request on deadline day we could get him for much less than £15m but then we'd also think he's a whopper for doing so.
