I've always wondered what GOT would of been like had it been around in 1995 when we signed Kanchelskis.

I think this would be pretty much equal.

Agreed. I think - given his torrid time of late - he's been brave getting a big redevelopment plan underway. He's got a plan to reinvigorate the squad and I hope he gets the results this season to be here and see it through. It's clear he's determined to reduce the age of the squad. He'll be itching to get the likes of Dowell involved soon too.

A lot of this was avoidable though: Osman and Hibbert given extensions; signing a relatively older player like Kone in the first place. I'd also have swerved Barry, tbh. Good player but a manager less concerned about a security blanket in cm would have looked at McCarthy and Barkley, just added Besic and left Barry to get off to the States.

Tbh, I think that the Barry signing was a good one, in principle. He'd performed well the season previous, and it was better to bring him in, at his age, than to bring a player in at mid twenties on a long term deal. I think if that had of happened, it would of been difficult to keep the youth motivated. Now they have one/two years to step up themselves

Given Galloway and Browning stepping up, Kone potentially being useful, Del and Cleverley providing depth, I don't see too many weaknesses. Browning can cover RB.

Note: I've accepted that we're not signing a keeper.

Probably because Inler was almost announced last week but then hit a snag until today.
