The issue with such a significant signing is that the selling club has to a) replace and b) have short term finance in place to secure the transfer.

Whilst we may now have short term finance in place, it doesnt mean that Napoli (as an example) will have, nor will they have a replacement for Mertens, whether it be direct replacement or simply another squad member.

We rejected the Stones deal due in part to lack of time to make any significant replacements. I highly doubt that other clubs wont be in the same position.

Its not impossible, but A LOT of stuff needs to happen or a very short term decision needs to be made by the selling club.

The club have/are no doubt working on doing deals but its not as simple as simply offering cash and the player coming in for medical/to sign.

Gibson, mcgeady and naismith should have been sold and Hibbert retired. We already have enough centre mid to do without gibbon and ledson coming through. We have lukaku, kone the new Uruguay lad, McLean needs some game time plus the new No10 to come in so no need for naismith.

Wings miracles, delefeou, piennar and oviedo should be enough considering we haven't started with any for the last 3 pretty games. So mcgeady can go.

Browning can cover for Coleman at right back or at a push cleverly. Hibbert shouldn't have had his contract renewed.

....times have changed, as has been said on numerous occasions it's not easy to move players on. If you are on a nice contract would you be 'be shown the door' or would you prefer to sit tight and wait to move on a lucrative Bosman when your contract is up. Also, somebody has to want you and in the likes of Gibson's case that will be unlikely unless he's willing to take a massive drop in pay given his injury record.
