No you tit but lets not name call. What I said is that he could play on our left as our play maker. I thought Barca thought he was going to be their new Xavi. I was actually surprised when @bicycleheader named Iniesta because that's how I saw him too.

So much back tracking from you it's unreal.

Very good player. Considered the new Xavi but has recently been played more a bit deeper. He's a fantastic passer, good dribbler and has good movement plus a solid defender. An actual proper 1st team player with a good few starts and only 24. Not simply a player with potential. If he came here he would be one of our best CMs.

I reckon I´ve seen close to, if not all his games in the first team, a lot of them at the stadium, and to be honest it just sounds like you have made up a description there.

He absolutely still is potential, even at 24. He is not a dribbler in any way, and while I think he could be a consistent passer along the lines of Busquets to keep the team moving, he has shown absolutely nothing to say he is a "fantastic" passer. Keeps it simple, doesn´t take risks and that´s either precisely his instructions or more likely he is lacking the personality to really grab his chance.

I like him though. He does all the basics very well, and is a very good tackler and like McCarthy seems to naturally know where to be when there is a threat to the defence but he doesn´t ever seem to do enough to really notice his presence. However....that´s a big ask for a young player of that type at Barças level.

I would love him to make it here, but if it´s not to be it would be amazing to see him at Everton. Having said that.....I don´t see the need for him so it´s a probably a load of rubbish.

I never said he was creative at the moment but his pass percentage is well over 90% and there's a difference between being able to pass and being able to pass quickly without taking too many extra touches.

He's not known for his dribbling but he is a good dribbler with the ability to glide past players with good close control but he's not a step-over fancy dribbler but he's better than McCarthy and Cleverly.

He's recently been moved back to Busquets' position but that's not originally where Barca intended to play him. To simply right him off as a a CDM is unfair since he has only played a handful of games there.

Arteta started off as a CDM. Just because some players play there at times in their career doesn't mean they need to be pigeon holed but that doesn't even apply to Roberto. He's a proper CM and has played on the left.

I've seen him play loads. Probably much clearer on my 50 inch than sitting in the gods at the Nou Camp.

I don´t know who you are writing half of that to, because I haven´t mentioned his position, let alone written him off as a CDM.

His profile would be......attacking mid like Iniesta, that was what was intended for him but he has shown no sign of being that type of player since joining the first team squad. His last season was as occasional fill-in for Busquets. But all of that is a bit besides the point, because despite willing him on in every game to make his mark, he hasn´t really done that in any position. Simple easy passes which I don´t think anybody who watched him could describe as "fantastic" despite the accuracy...no dribbling, certainly not enough to bother even mention his dribbling skills, let alone say he is a good dribbler.

He may have all the skills to be a much more impressive footballer, but I am not sure if he will show that at Barça, and he certainly hasn´t up until now. Players there nowadays simply don´t get the time and patience which Xavi and Inesta received in their first few years.

Where's the back tracking?

"Considered the new Xavi but has recently been played more a bit deeper. He's a fantastic passer, good dribbler and has good movement plus a solid defender."
"He's not known for his dribbling but he is a good dribbler with the ability to glide past players with good close control but he's not a step-over fancy dribbler but he's better than McCarthy and Cleverly."
"He's a proper CM and has played on the left"

This is exactly a description of Iniesta.

Think city possibly looking at mcarthy is dead in the water now, delph is having medical down there. spent last wk giving the lad respect for chosing footy over money and he’s gone and backtracked on everything the bleeding muppet!

Haha you called him the new Xavi, now he is Iniesta.

If you actually read what @bicycleheader wrote it was this.

Out of pure curiosity what is his dribbling score on FIFA ?

Actually that's bollocks. I got it out of him even though he tried to back track that he saw him as an Iniesta type player.

Ahem - which is basically the type of player I was describing unless you think Iniesta can't dribble or pass.

You must imagine what people actually write, but here is what he said after you called him the new xavi, really don't think he back tracked at all.

Where did I call him the new Xavi. I said Barca saw him as the new Xavi. I always said he would be an asset for us as our play maker in much the same way as Arteta was originally a CDM at Barca but moved to the wing. That said he would also be an option in the center for us.

I read what @bicycleheader said. Perhaps you should read what I say before commenting.

I also had already said that he had been played deeper more recently but we're talking only from about mid April. Because Rooney played a few games in midfield for Moyes does that now mean he can't play as a striker?

Or because Mascherano now plays CB for Barca does that mean he couldn't play CDM for another team?

Of course not. Barca are a weird club. They buy wingers and play them as full backs. CDM and play them as CB. They're a team that look to play the majority of the game in the opposition half and as such they put more emphasize on control and passing even for their defenders so for them playing a more attacking player at CDM makes perfect sense.

However for us I think he has the talent and the ability to be the player they always thought he would be which is similar to Iniesta.

This thread is madness but I wanted to pop in and express my disappointment we haven't been linked with "the next Seamus Coleman" even once this summer. Have the Irish papers forgotten about us?
