Travel thread 3.0

Thanks for this. We’re taking a bunch of teenagers with us, so I’m guessing they won’t be put off by the loud noise🤣

Will deffo check out Patara though.
😁 I suspect you are right😁. A couple of other suggestions you may wish to consider are trips to Sakklikent Gorge, Kas (lovely place also has a weekly market on a friday), Fethiye (well worth a visit, nice promenade with even bigger market on a tuesday), and a trip to Greek island of Meis (Greeks call it Castelorrizo). If you do not have a car the local travel agents in Kalkan can sort it out for you. Well worth a bit of research before you go to see what suits you and your family.

It is a Greek Island mate. x No matter what they call it x

Cheers mate! Thanks for the info. Peruvian food is definitely an option. Have heard the city is good for food generally.

Re going out on the lash, would you recommend any good parts of town for people in their 30s/40s? More sort of chilled out kind of places I guess or just those that are not full of kids?

Not a bad dish at that Peruvian place. Try a couple starters and a couple mains and share. All great, and they do lovely Pisco Sours

For going out you could do a night between the bars on Calle de Joaquín Costa in Raval and could also wander down a bit from there, cross Las Ramblas and go into Gotico. There's an Irish bar called Penny Bangers which is not really a traditional Irish pub but has two Irish owners. Plenty bars in the streets close to there also

If you do the Gracia neighborhood like I said before I would recommend Raim 1886 which is a Cuban bar that I like a lot. Lots of little places in Gracia to wander in and out of

Taking Mrs Thumpety-Thump to Thailand today for a week. Direct flight from Melbourne to Phuket. Went to Chiang Mai and Bangkok in November and had a blast, temples, elephant sanctuaries and legal weed, absolute heaven. Not sure what to expect from Phuket, if anyone has any recommendations I’d be grateful.

You can expect Russian Mafia. It's full of them.

It's very, very different to Bangkok and Chiang Mai. However, like anywhere else, if you're sensible you'll be fine.

Driving around the north of Tenerife with my family - such a different place altogether . Green and almost rainforest like in parts. Miles and miles of twisty, cliff-edged roads and no brits. Well worth a visit.

Any plans in general you would recommend?

We are going for a week on the 26th, arriving in the south and staying in Garachico in the north. We will rent a car and actually end up doing a loop around by the other airport when we arrive as we were told the road going around the other side is not the best.

We have a friend here who lived there for a couple of years who should be sending a load of recommendations but be good to know if there was anything in particular that you enjoyed.

Last time we were in Tenerife we got the bus to the capital, Santa Cruz, and wandered around for the day. Well worth a visit and so different from what we were used to in the west and north of the island.

Are you with kids? How old? We first stayed in el Medano it is right next to the southern airport (you dont really hear the planes) but it is a 5 minute taxi and great for the first night or two while you get your bearings. It is a spanish town mostly, few English and loads of great Spanish eateries for Spanish people. We really liked it there. Hired a car from an Argentinian guy called Henry - he was also excellent and even drove us to the airport on our way home. I can give you his company deets if needed.
We booked a hostel in the north - the nature reserve/national park, beautiful an rugged, mad roads up twisty mountains. If you do this - stipulate your own room or you end up sharing - not keen, not with kids.

Then stayed a few nights in a weird town on the other side of the island - cannot remember name, was not all that. Then back down to the tourisyty bit - Adeje - not as big as the the main drag areas but still pretty touristy and Britih pubs, food etc. We did have a laugh and basically got pie-eyed every night when we were there. It has the Siam Park water park - the best in the world they say. Had an excellent day the but gets mad queues etc on weekends and school hols.

It isnice to have the two extremes, hostels then brits on the piss, kind of makes you appreciate both!
