Trivia Question

Here's a rubbish one for you FTY. A certain player in the current Everton squad has made eleven times as many appearances for the club as a substitute than he has as a starter. After that there's one that has made four times as many appearances off the bench, and another that's made three times as many. Who do you reckon are our most fringey fringe players.

Naismith?
Could deulofeu possibly be one to have made one start and 3 sub appearances?

Our top substituters are Apostelos Vellios with just 2 starts for 22 sub appearances.
Arouna Kone is second with 1 start for 4 sub appearances.
And Bryan Oviedo is third with 5 starts for 15 sub appearances.

Leon Osman is the most used replacement in the current squad with 38 sub appearances, however he also has the most starts at 315.

At the other end of the spectrum the player with the strongest starts to subs ratio (other than goalkeepers) is Steven Pienaar, which is phenomenal considering he's a wide midfielder and has 183 starts to his name. His 7 appearances as a substitute mean that only 4% of his appearances have come as a sub, making him arguably the most valued player of the current squad.

As a follow up question, there are only two players (again no keepers) that can beat Steven's ratio of 4% since 2000. So, which two players do you think were even more relied upon than Pienaar, and of the two who was trusted the most?

Lescott and maybe Lee Carlsey?

Yup, Lescott on 3.5% and the most trusted player under David Moyes, bar none, Philip John Neville with a startling 295 starts for only 8 sub appearances, or 2.6% of his games.

There's also Richard Gough in at 2.4%, but I said after 2000 and many of his games were just before, so he was out.

Incidentally there are (I think) only seven outfield players since 1990 to have played a significant number of games (more than 10) with none of their appearances coming from the bench. That is, they started every single game that they played for the club.
There are loads before 1990 due to rule changes etc. so I've stuck to the last 23 years.

Is this incredibly dull? I feel like it might be, please tell me to pack it in if it is.

I am just amazed at where you are getting the info from mate!

Got no idea to any answer though, but I would guess that central defenders might be one or two? Started every game that is.
