You too still got TV licenses in UK?

We got that thing still in Croatia but absolutely nobody (beside some naive suckers) are paying that crap.
Maybe sometimes (every few years) TV guy knock out at your doors, you simply ignore him and thats pretty much it, no any penalty or anything.

…I just have a standing order, no idea how much it is or when it gets paid but it’s sorted. I’ve also been paying a ridiculous amount to Sky for so long, they say I’m a VIP customer but I don’t know what difference that makes.

I remember when some mates used to have a cheaper licence for black and white TV in the days you could have either, I’ve also seen people being prosecuted after the detector van caught them watching in a house without a licence.
Try IPTV mate ask around, get it from a source Surf shark £30 VPN £100 a year all around for a good IPTV everything you want is on it just buy the gizmos off e bay & away you go .... it's illegal though so check your source ask around most people use it ....

Forgot to pay mine and just received an urgent email saying I haven't paid.

It's made me think.

I've got away with it for 7 days. How much further do I push this thing?

So.

TV licence.

When he, normally is. And normally ex police or forces come knocking. They have no legal right to enter your property. They will try and convince you otherwise, from the special gadget that detects or even be a little aggressive sticking their foot inside door etc. Just politely refuse them entry is my advice.

If you don't pay it - it may affect your credit rating too - the only way to avoid ever paying your TV licence is to not register in the first place & purchase a 2nd hand TV - as if you buy a new one it is registered with the BBC ..... automatically

Never paid, not going to, although there is talk in Ireland of them replacing the TV licence with a media tax that will be taken by revenue at source, so they may get my money eventually but not while it's up to me to pay it.

Sorry Joey, that's nonsense. If it was true they would have your name and address, but when they send their threatening letters to me they are addressed to "the legal occupier" not to me by name. They only know if the address hasn't got a current TV licence. They rely on fear and ignorance. Not having a TV licence cannot affect your credit rating. You don't need a licence to own or even use a TV, you only need it to watch, or download, live TV broadcasts and iPlayer.

Have you read it ? How are the BBC going to know if you've bought a new telly ?
The shop or online digitly automated inform them & it is cross-checked if you already have a BBC licence by the BBC - if you haven't they contact you - I posted about my daughters' boyfriend who purchased a larger TV for his games machine - they were asking for a TV licence within 2 weeks - yet in those days he had TV no dish or TV Ariel......
He told them he was not watching any TV it took him a while to convince them .....

Joey, they send me a threatening letter every month even though they don't know if I have a TV or not, they just assume every address has one, and send the letters to every address that isn't licensed according to their database. It's just playing on peoples' fears. That's why the lad was asked to pay for a license "within 2 weeks" not because he'd bought a new TV.
