TV Series

I used to love this cartoon when I was a half-bucket.

It helped make me the man I am today.

Yikes, that's an insult to Gomorrah. I couldn't even finish the first season of Suburra it was so average.

No way, it just got better and better as it went along.

By series 3 it was rivalling Gomorrah in quality.

The major flaw in both though, was that there was carnage going on every where and virtually no police involvement lol

Just got back into watching Bosch on Amazon Prime.
Watched the first few seasons a while back.
Really enjoyable show, if very formulaic at times.

If course Lance Reddick plays the chief of police. This fella:

Am I going mad, or does he turn up in absolutely every single gritty American TV show at some point? lol

He's always the same role as well. Like in Fringe he's head of FBI.

Isn’t he the badass concierge on John Wick?

Chief of Police in the wire too, iirc

If Gomorrah was a 10, Suburra is a 9.75.

Outstanding and very much like Gomorrah, they’re able to kill off lead characters to refresh the series, with no detriment to the quality.

Again, just like Gomorrah you really bond with the two main leads - Adami and Spadini, even though they are murderous psychos.

Anyone who loved Gomorrah this is a much watch.

Corruption, murder, drugs, land deals, all mixed in with corrupt Vatican officials, police, government and organised crime groups in Rome.

Three series and it’d be a tragedy if they don’t do a fourth.

I've only watched 3 episodes of S1 so far, but so far so good

Thought that too, massive shootouts and death in suburban areas and absolutely no sign of the cops or any sign of them getting caught afterwards lol

Didn't think much of The Undoing at all.

One thing I did find amusing was Sylvia, the best friend of Grace, played by Kidman had an uncanny resemblance to the bloke in that 'comedy' film White Chicks years back.

Anybody else watching Industry? Bit like a modern version of This Life except the female leads are much fitter.
Mostly set in a London Investment House so not sure how accurate it is, but it's very watchable so far. Up to episode 3 on BBC. It's produced by HBO and written be Lena Durham, so the credentials are good.

I've been watching and it's pretty good. Quite an easy watch but not amazing

It's not actually written by Lena Durham, she directed an episode. It's written and created by 2 guys that used to work in investment banking in London. I worked in "The City" for a short while myself and it certainly doesn't feel too far from the truth.

Never worked in London offices but it definitely seems 'on the money' with one of the european offices i had a short stint in.

The Asian offices can be pretty brutal.

Drugs: Massively overblown. Never saw it apart from with 1 client (toilets) + a house party of a MD from a large bank which was basically like scarface....mountains of coke.

Deaths: Not heard of anyone working themselves to death. Theres been 3 suicides...one new guy on my desk, one in another office and a third was a new guy in the floor below. Heard of a few more but dont know how true.

Drinks: Sales guys pretty much everyday. Not sleeping in toilets but getting hotels or, in my case paying huge rent to live close to the office...we could be out 3 nights straight with a couple of hours sleep...definitely sleeping at the desk was common for those who brought business...

Sexual harrassment: Occasionally, Female clients and lower level staff would try it on...repeatedly until it came to a head. I know for the girls its alot more frequent.

Bullying: All the time unless you took it as banter. Then take it as banter and some would escalate it while usually youre part of the group if you give it back a bit in good jest.

Culture: The fresh grads are usually treated well...while once hired for a while theyre treated pretty badly if they dont perform. Definitely favourism to those from good schools.

All in all, its a tv series but the sentiment seemed very realistic.

Id say that the Gus character would have been let go within 2 weeks max. Only the death of a colleague may have gotten him a bit longer but his attitude would have in no way kept him in the job.

Sara the one trying to change the culture came across as a nutjob. In reality the meetings she had would have included a direct superior of the graduate.

Hilary and Eric seemed dead on. Ive worked under both characters.

Good watch.

The mandalorin is pretty gash. I like the lead and the baby yoda but every other character is terrible and the sub story lines must have been written as part of a primary school project.
Someone reappeared in the last episode and I had no recollection of who they were just because they’re all so bland and mould into one. Bit of a shame as it had potential to be decent.

Never worked in the City but I have had many dealings with them. I worked for a major UK Bank and we had our own Private Bank and Investment House in the City. Whilst they were now operating under the umbrella of the parent brand, they were originally old named city business's and, internally, they retained their old school culture and of course their magnificent buildings in the St James region of the City, that resembled old gentleman's clubs.

I would often accompany clients down there. It was generally the sales people (relationship directors) I'd be dealing with but sometimes, especially where there was big bucks involved, we'd get to see the senior guys who actually run the funds. These were god like figures, paid serious dosh, invariably male and always complete arseholes.

The hospitality was always spot on and no expense spared. When I wasn't required to return to Liverpool with the clients, I'd sometimes book overnight down there and was well looked after. The nights were very boozy, so the show was realistic in that regard, although personally I never saw any use of the white stuff but was equally sure it went on. More than once I missed my last train home when I hadn't planned to stay over (think it used to be something ridiculous like 8pm) and was put up by one of the staff.

I probably went down there maybe 20/30 times over a 10 year period when I was in my 40s. The guys and gals down there were a lot younger, 20s and 30s. I was always laid out for days afterwards but these guys just went back to work the next day and got on with it. Amazing. lol

I did get to know some of the people really well and over alcohol they quite often tell you more than they should, but I probably don't remember half of it with being so pissed myself. But I do know that they are very results driven places, competition between teams and individuals, and even companies, was massive, and they were all hugely ambitious, but deep down quite unhappy people. I got the impression bullying and sexism was pretty rife but accepted as part of life.

At the time I used to really enjoy my jaunts down there. They were a glimpse at how the other half live. But thinking back now I had nothing in common with them really, being just an ordinary scouse lad, other than an enjoyment of getting pissed and dining out on good food.

Edit

Oh forgot to mention, The women are also much fitter, not to mention dirtier, in the TV version. ;)
