Watching it in about 15 mins mate - completely forgot to try yesterday haha. I've read so many bad things about it but will go in pretending I haven't.
I was hooked on Peaky Blinders right from the very start.
Like a good few other fans I have been frustrated by the delay in showing the latest series that's been ready for the last couple of years.
So I've started watching the whole thing again and it's better second time around. Stand out performance in series one is Sam Neill. A frightening figure indeed.
I'm actually liking it so far. I get your problem with it though, I do the same with stuff I've read that makes the screen. I also am wondering like yourself how they are going to do the whole set of books.
I noticed Brandon Sanderson is an exec producer on it. Agree the cgi isn't brilliant, especially the use of magic.
It is very tropey though, first episode could have been LOTR almost like for like, I even thought Strider was making an appearance lol
I've watched all 4 eps now - gave it another go. Really into it now because there's less instances of the awful CGI (the river scene at the begin nearly made me throw a sock at the TV). However the storyline is very... familiar really but I still have that "what's going to happen next" feeling because I haven't heard of it before. I can imagine if I'd read the books and that feeling was taken away I'd find it very average.
The actor who plays Perrin I can't stand; not sure if it's intentional but he just looks gormless 24/7 and reminds me of Lennie from Of Mice and Men. Seems like they're trying to cram every single racial stereotype into it they can though with the Irish travellers and the Asian samurai-y swordsman.
