TV Series

I just don't understand why they insist on having every single major character be human in a galaxy far far away.

This is Disney we're talking about? The billion dollar corporation that buys franchise and shows for a laugh? That Disney? You're seriously telling me that having a few halfway cool looking alien characters in interesting roles is outside their budget? Incredible. Kinda makes you wonder just how in the hell Lucas managed it in the first film with Chewbaca, The Tusken Raiders, Greedo, and all the other alien characters in the cantina scene doesn't it?

Well yeah, but you don't pay for the rest of the rides without the one that makes all the Money.

Star Wars is fairly creatively bankrupt so they're going to strip it back to bones, see what soup they can make. Gritty, dark, moody, really spend as little as they can and hope the fan boys come back to the only thing they really liked as Kenobi would have cost a fortune.

There's literally hundreds of books and thousands of comics just begging to be adapted. If they really can't come up any better then they're hiring the wrong people because Star Wars is not difficult to write. In fact Its gloriously simple so if they're seriously struggling then its a horrendous reflection on the people they're putting their faith in.

All of that is irrelevant though because putting a guy/gal in a costume to make him/her look like an alien would cost buttons in terms of modern film making. If George Lucas managed it in 1977 on a comparatively tiny budget (hell his budget in 77 was tiny compared to the one he had in 1980 for TESB) then Disney can do it in 2022.

They have got Ahsoka in development which should be out next year; my only concern is that it will follow the same trope as Obi-Wan and be a spectacle rather than a story.

What’s made Andor so great is the gritty, dark, political storylines. We know Andor survives so they’ve made this up supporting characters interesting to the point that you’re shocked if they die.

You’re 100% correct though; the universe for storytelling is massive and it should reach outside of the “known” characters. If they use Andor as staple of how it should be written then they’ll be on to something. But it’s Disney, they’ll want to push merchandise

I let HoD play out and binge watched it. It was fantastic, revived my hope for the franchise after it was brutally murdered by those writers.

Few little bits I didn’t like in it, but cringey on the writing but that’s few and far between.

The time jumps through me a bit, why did Aemond look 40 and Lucerys look 10, when there’s a couple of years between them. Yet Christon didn’t age a bit

Minor nitpicks, fantastic show though and can’t wait for season 2

Those comics have to be worthy of spending millions of dollars on! Im sure theres alot of comics and books but how many of them are actually any good enough to do a whole series? Relatable to the layman? You’ve got Obi Wan doing a show and it turns out plop how you going to convince anyone to spend money on a bunch of nobodies? And if you think chucking a rubber mask on a main character - in this day and age - with this level of 8K high Def digital scrutiny is the same as it was in ‘77 you’re crazy! It’s months of R&D, hours in the makeup chair!

You do realise that if people need to spend 2 hours in the chair thats minus 2 hours from a ten hour day, minus lunch, minus all the lining up and lighting, changing camera positions, minus all the other actors and scenes and makeup technicians you’ll and make up buses you’ll need to park and power and… actors dont go home dressed as their characters right? You gotta get them back to normal. People need to have a turnaround before their back in set… right?

To make Star Wars you need full on pro’s, not this film school fantasy land!

There is absolutely NOTHING thats easy about making anything, especially Sci Fi. Its a painful, costly, hideous yet fulfilling process and if you actually experienced how ‘easy’ it is you’d be laughed out of Skywalker Ranch faster than the Millenium Falcon on the Kessel Run!

Its actually amazing how desperate you are to blindly defend Disney at every single turn here. This entire discussion comes from you pretending that them simply adding a handful of cool looking alien side characters (because I never once asked for one to be the main character) its apparently financially crippling to Disney. Sorry but that's just ludicrous.

There's an endless supply of comics and books that would both be easy to adapt and easily relatable to a casual fan. This isn't complicated, its Star Wars ffs. You'd have to be a moron to not understand it and the handful of moments that might be seen to some as complicated can always been edited out. That's how adaptions work.

You can say that "chucking a rubber mask" on a character (because again, I never said a main character) wouldn't work but Chewbaca holds up very well almost fifty years later. As does Greedo. Practical effects can work when done properly. Its absolutely mad that you're arguing so forcefully (pun instead!) about this.

Come on ffs. Asking for some cool looking and interesting alien side characters in Star Wars is not an unreasonable request.
