TV Series

Finished that yesterday.

I thought it was thoroughly deserving of more than 3 episodes.

The amount of unsolved murders of women along that stretch of rural Freeway, was truly mind blowing, as was the lack of coordinated investigation or urgency to do anything about it.

One FBI agent !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems to be a running theme in most American murders that the police/FBI involved are absolutely bloody useless.

This one is particularly bad.

They put a screen shot of all the unsolved murders / missing women / girls along this stretch of Freeway in the Deep South and there must`ve been easily over fifty, yet there was one FBI agent involved ( who seemed a very dedicated and competent fella, but who was ultimately worn down by the enormity of it all )

Yeh seems like it's worse down south of the country that has larger open spaces, smaller rural towns, cliquey local police forces etc. Haven't seen this one but will check it out. Will remind me of True Det

I think it’s the way the series builds to that episode which is the genius of it. Was wondering what the hype was all about after the first few episodes but would thoroughly recommend it.

Didn't quite understand the ending though. Will have to ponder on it some more. But yep, short, sharp, brilliant portrayals, well shot, a show that doesn't spoon feed you exposition. You're just there in it.

The tv show spin off of Let the right one in has been really good so far. Only watched the first 3, I was really worried they were going to ruin it because the film is fantastic. Have to say they’ve kept the tone very similar to the film. For those that have seen the film they’ve expanded the story (obviously to drag a few seasons out of it) but the changes they’ve made so far seem to add to the overall story and it’s not just filler

Just watched the first three episodes and you`re spot on with how you describe it ( so far )

My only criticisms, would be that it does have the feeling of unrelenting bleakness of the original film and also fleshing it out, with running other threads, detracts from the main theme.

If there was no film first, this TV series would be getting a lot more plaudits.

Sorry mate haven’t been in here today so didn’t see your message earlier. I’m halfway through the 4th but I might pick it up tomorrow as it’s late. Have to say it’s very enjoyable and the story around Ellie and Isaiah is very well done. The end of the 3rd I thought captured that really well.

I can see why they’re adding more and while it does detract from the main theme I think it’s adding to it. I think part of the charm of the film is there is no explanation for it. It’s not always good to provide that but if they get it right while keeping the elements of the film that made it so great I think they could be onto a winner.

Completely agree with your last point, I think it speaks volumes that we aren’t here saying how bad an effort it is given how great the source material was.

I’m not actually sure if I’ve seen the uncut version or not, I think I originally watched it on film 4 so I’ll have to try and find the uncut version

Chainsaw Man is popping off, killing me with weekly eps though considering how short anime eps traditionally are. 20 mins every week ain't it.
I'm personally waiting to build it up a bit, same with the latest season of MP100. Bleach & MHA are the ones that I'm watching week-to-week currently as both have just been so good.

Have you read the book ?

It was the author`s debut novel ( John Ajvide Lindqvist )

It`s a truly outstanding book and to create a modern horror classic, about a genre, that`s been done to death, is an incredible achievement, for anyone, let alone a first time author.

It`s a book, that I`m happy to read time and time again.

No mate I haven’t read the book but I might give it a try. To be ho eat I only realised it was a book when I was looking up stuff about the show. Didn’t even realise it was a book when I’d watched the film. I take it the book is set to the same tone as the film? It’s interesting because you presume vampire stories about kids is going to be like twilight or something but this is dark. It’s a really interesting dynamic
