he was sound, he's a cb who can do a job at rb, has decent pace and never gets made a show of.

A athletic version of tony hibbert, but better on the ball.

He'll make a career with us for sure like.

No, we absolutely shouldn't be happy about it. I'm not going to hold the performance against Browning or write him off for the future because of it, but it really wasn't a good performance. Yes, there are extenuating circumstances, and it certainly wasn't a disaster, but it really hurt our overall performance today not having a proper right back in the lineup.

Wow

Candidate for today's most clueless post

I'd hate to have seen your review of Stones's first derby game at right back if you didn't think Ty's was a good performance.

Our side is built around attacking fullbacks. When they aren't attacking, we don't do as well. It's not rocket science. Browning never got forward at all, so Deulofeu and Lennon were completely isolated on the right and mostly ineffective as a result.

Again, this isn't a criticism of Browning personally. I'm saying one of the biggest reasons we looked so toothless in the attacking third was because we didn't get the support from right back that Martinez' tactics require to work effectively. That's not his fault, but he didn't do what we needed him to do.

Yeah, I thought that was pretty poor, too. That didn't mean I didn't think Stones was a quality player with bags of potential, though -- just that he didn't play as well as we needed him to in that match.

He done what he was put in the side to do and done it effectively. Do you think Martinez who trains with him every week was expecting him to be an attacking full back?

I really doubt Martinez was expecting our right winger to be mobbed by three Liverpool defenders every time he received the ball and not have any outlet to pass to, no. If you want to blame Martinez for not preparing him correctly, fine. My guess is that the backroom staff were expecting Coleman to be available and didn't adequately prepare Browning.
